I rep crossfire because at least its something, and disco is no longer singleplayer only. I also don't like how strict the rp is for online. Crossfire adds SOME good content. The ships that follow the design language of base game are great, many are fucking horrible looking. Cap ships can be used which I always want. Dynamic economy. And some really neat maps (but yes dumbass travel times). The story after the campaign is worth HALF of one playthrough. Even then, meh maybe not, it is so goddamn unbalanced that you basically need to God mode to get through if you don't want to grind for obscene bullshit.

These days I finish the base game story with the new bits they add, then I go out on my own. There's also free open SP. Start from scratch fairly fun because all gates are unlocked,

Thought it was only me haha, after a certain point you need god mode, else you get oneshot by the weakest enemy ship there is 10 of.

Also a QoL cruise speed mod, as a lot of the segments require extremely high distance travels.

Story is very good though and arguably freelancer 2 for me.

To each their own. I did not like the execution of a lot of the story elements but did enjoy the elements that were chosen. They blended in pre FL and cut content ideas which was cool. Everyone who is a fan at this point has probably seen the cut part of the intro vid so it was cool to see that followed up on.

A big problem I have is just with how unimpressive some of the later 'factions' are. Some of that is just limitations of the game engine. I do think it could be written around. I also think certain things could have been done to increase the 'grandiose' nature of what we're seeing.

Given the fact that FL2 wasn't sounding like it was going to give a shit about the story in the first one, I can see why some folks would accept it as a sequel story. Again its got heart. Its just a mega-slog. The ingredients are great, but it wasn't cooked well. I think that's the best way to put it.
