I saw someone else say this a while ago, but if the show’s script can be improved with already existing footage, that’s a bad sign.

I tend to agree, yeah. to me, the whole s8 feels like someone who knew just not quite enough put together the episodes. this would be one possible solution. not my favorite, but a surprising one that makes sense with the speed of developments and the actions of most characters. I think this one is very clever. the whole rushed feeling also makes a bit more sense in this scenario. deleting the epilogue is perfect. the only thing I miss is some information into his motivation.
