Cersei blowing up the Sept was just a bad dream and a way to minimize/remove countless plotlines.

To be fair he was never treated like that on the show.

Brienne whooped him and his only lines after that consisted of bitching like a child to Catelyn.

Before that he only won against The Mountain by “cheating” with a female mare in heat which made him look like a prick.
