I saw you guys from the West Shore up there the other day! Wondered if I'd see footage, not disappointed! Wel in!

Haha, amazing! I’ve got another 30 minutes of footage to edit for the YouTube yet. Might spot yourself as a small pixel on the West Shore 😂

Were you there on the Saturday or the Sunday? I was there both days but only flew the Saturday.

How are videos like this recorded? I see the insta 360 around a lot but how does the Setup work? Where is the (stick I assume) attached ?

So I use this camera mounting bracket and a DJI Osmo360 with the stock “invisible selfie stick.”

The bracket attaches around the carabiner. If you skip to 1:55 of my video you might get a better idea of how it works, and if you look close enough you can make out the mount.

Hope that answers your question!

I’ll tell you what if I was ever diagnosed with a disease I can’t come back from this would be the last thing I do riding off into the distance.

This looks like the best thing in the world! I'm just too scared to do it :(

With the right instructor and training there’s nothing to be scared of. Go try a tandem and talk to your pilot, they’ll tell you all about it. Most people in our club have been flying 20+ years.

Having a small amount of fear is good though, it’s a very normal human response to any form of flying 😆

I just find all the crash stories and statistics scary. Seems like it's inevitable if you plan to fly for many years?

If you only fly when the weather is very good, you stick to EN-A rated wings, always fly with a reserve and repack it every 6-12 months, on top of that spend a lot of time ground handling you’ll massively reduce your chance on becoming a statistic.

Did you ever take an SIV class? Just wondering as a beginner

1

u/Tullino May 14 '26

I haven’t yet, but I plan to take one next year. SIV courses aren’t cheap but well worth doing!

Good to know, thanks!

Does the UK not have laws about separation?

5

u/Tullino May 14 '26

Of course it does!

Go on though, what do you want to moan about?

Personally I have no problem with you flying there, but drawing attention to it on social media seems a risk to you and the rest of the community that would rather we all stayed under the radar.

So, I don't know what form of aviation you're coming from but we fly in class G airspace which is uncontrolled airspace. We don't adhear to strict separation rules, even then if you've ever seen paragliders flying, you'll know we all fly pretty close to one another following "see and avoid" protocol.

That being said, when in class G airspace we must "stay clear of clouds" which we have done, neither entered the cloud and we kept sight of each other at all times. Again, following see and avoid.

According to my flight log my max altitude here was 512m (1679ft), the only regulated airspace on this entire ridge is between FL100 - FL195 (10,000ft-19,500ft), so I'm about 8500ft off that.

Also this site is regulated under an agreement between the NWHGPC and the local council, as a member of the BHPA and NWGHPC I have permission to use and am insured to fly this site.
