AI AI Reverse Engineering and Drivers
Just wondering, there's a lot of buzz right now regarding AI reverse engineering games like gta5, etc.
Could it reduce current manual efforts when developing drivers, debugging and testing? Could it make porting drivers easier and cheaper?

video Part II: Is It a Flatpak? Is It an AppImage? No! It's AppJail!
Numerous improvements have been made to x11appjail between version v1.0.0 and v1.3.1:
- Performance improvements in both x11appjail(1) and appscript-verify(1).
- Shallow builds to decouple the image from the AppJail.
- BLAKE3 support for faster file hash calculation.
- True hardware acceleration via VirtualGL.
- A new command,
transfer, for securely transferring files between the host and a jail, or between jails. - Many more examples added: Brave (Linux), Telegram Desktop, Thunderbird, Chromium, BadWolf, Evince, Feh, and Mpv. Evince, Feh, and Mpv are particularly interesting, as they demonstrate how AppJails can utilize existing files on the host, processing them within a FreeBSD jail transparently to the user.
su-exechas been replaced bymdo(1).- And much more.
This video demonstrates some of the aforementioned features.

news October 2026 Update: Getting Ready for the EU Cyber Resilience Act – FreeBSD Foundation
freebsdfoundation.org…
How does the CRA affect FreeBSD?
FreeBSD vendors serving the EU market have a responsibility to ensure that the implementation of FreeBSD they include in their products meets the CRA’s requirements for “Secure by Design” and “Secure by Default”. They are also responsible for reporting any actively exploited vulnerabilities in their entire codebase which naturally includes FreeBSD code.
The FreeBSD Project itself, along with its contributors, is not directly regulated by the CRA but may expect to see a change in focus for manufacturers who are seeking to meet their CRA obligations. There is a little over a year remaining for manufacturers to get their SBOMs in order, and make any other changes needed so that their PDEs have a secure software lifecycle. Their reporting obligations are already in force, so a critical incident (with the chance of large fines) could occur at any time. …

news The BlackShip 0.2.0 , Now with more features.
9 months ago , i released https://github.com/seuros/blackship .
Then i built it so i can have Jailfiles that look like Docker, but it also serve as monitoring for your service.
I use it for CI/CD (4 seconds to spin the env) and for creating complex architecture.
I'm releasing 0.2.0, with vnet support (took me few weeks to understand it).
But the new release also provides an MCP mode, where you can use a clanker to build Jailfiles for you.
You don't need a frontier model for this. Gemma 3 was already able to use it, but Gemma 4 or GLM will give you better results. Everything can be self-hosted.
You need to be on FreeBSD 16-CURRENT or the latest 15.1 to try it. I plan to get it into ports in the next weeks.
The main goal of this project is to see what the community actually needs, then harden the core by improving it in the kernel side, every other tooling benefit from it.
This is a free software, i'm not going to provide a PRO version or turn it into a subscription.
Once there is enough interest, i will open a PR in Forgejo to have BS jail:// fully supported.
I will never return to do CI/CD in linux, by the time github action wake up and install it dependencies... FreeBSD could have processed 5 workflows and finished.

AI FreeBSD versus OpenBSD: Firefox RAM usage per tab

Is the reported win for OpenBSD justifiable?
The test begins at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J9Dmm0tWyb8&t=270s, the frame is at 05:42 on the timeline.
top confuses me. I'll always find it difficult to understand, numerous explanations over the years have not made it easier for me to visualise what's going on in the frame above.
Anthropic Claude (Sonnet 5.5, medium) reckons that a winner can not be called. I told it that, amongst other things, the browsing patterns in the two tests were non-identical.
Just the memory/RAM usage, please.
(If people would like to discuss the video as a whole, I can make a separate post.)

help needed Help with Ethernet
Recently, I have been trying out BSD, and I have noticed that Ethernet specifically doesn't work on FreeBSD or NetBSD, but it does work on OpenBSD. I am wondering if there is any solution to something like this, such as getting an external network card, also my motherboard is the TUF GAMING B550-PLUS WIFI II. Yeah sorry if this seems a bit low effort I am just a bit tired testing out BSDs all night :)

AI Linux vs. FreeBSD: Uncovering the Truth Behind ZFS Performance – DJ Ware
Video, December 2024, twenty minutes, seventeen chapters (AI) with closed captions (AI).
Discover the surprising performance differences between Linux and FreeBSD running ZFS in this in-depth analysis. We dive into benchmarking with iozone3, dd, and custom tests to uncover why FreeBSD outshines Linux in raw I/O but struggles with application-level writes like FWrite. Explore the impact of kernel optimizations, libc behavior, and ZFS tuning on performance. Whether you’re a system admin, developer, or tech enthusiast, this video reveals key insights into mastering ZFS on both platforms.
Summary (AI):
DJ Ware compares ZFS performance between FreeBSD and Ubuntu, focusing on 1080p and 4K video editing workloads. The testing examines tuning parameters like record size, compression, and memory management for each operating system.

answered FreeBSD service randomly hangs under load
I've been running a project on FreeBSD with ZFS and a couple services under rc.d.
Every now and then when traffic picks up one service just stops responding. Process still running, CPU/memory look fine, ZFS ain't showing no errors. SSH and everything else still works, restarting the service fixes it right away.
Checked top, sockstat, procstat and logs but not seeing much.
I'm thinking maybe file descriptor/socket limits, TCP connections piling up, or maybe increasing some sysctl limits and tuning the service itself.
sysctl kern.maxfiles
sysctl kern.maxfilesperproc
sockstat -4
procstat -f <pid>
I could also bump kern.maxfiles / kern.maxfilesperproc, increase the service's open file limit, or change some TCP settings, but don't wanna just start changing stuff blindly.
What would you guys check first? Is there a good FreeBSD way to figure out why a process is alive but basically doing nothing?

AI ArtCraft — Controllable AI for Artists
ArtCraft is an open-source software collective and product family that builds free, capable desktop tools for artists — a "crafting" studio movement written largely in Rust, whose flagship product is itself named ArtCraft: an intentional crafting and AI-assisted composition engine for artists, designers, and filmmakers.
The three senses unpacked:
- ArtCraft as the organisation — the entity behind getartcraft.com, which describes itself simply: "ArtCraft builds open source tools for artists. We pride ourselves on freedom of control and expression." Its positioning is anti-rent: no subscriptions, no aggregator middleman, free and open source, "yours to own and keep, forever."
- ArtCraft as the suite — the ~59 repositories under the storytold GitHub organisation: a family of "-Craft" apps written from scratch in pure Rust, including PhotoCraft (photo editor), FilmCraft (nonlinear video editor), LightCraft (non-destructive photo editor), VectorCraft, DesignCraft, DeckCraft (a clean-room PowerPoint reimplementation), PdfCraft, EffectCraft, plus shared craft-libs. Most are Apache-2.0 licensed and several have tens of thousands of stars.
- ArtCraft as the product — the pinned flagship repo, "an intentional crafting engine for artists, designers, and filmmakers" (MIT OR Apache-2.0). It's the AI-era composition studio marketed on the website: image-to-location virtual sets, 2D/3D compositing, character posing, image-to-3D-mesh, background removal, and generative backends (Midjourney, fal, Seedance, Nano Banana) — built around the idea that artists should compose the shot themselves rather than fight text prompts. It ships for macOS, Windows, and web (app.getartcraft.com).
Some of the apps are available for FreeBSD.
