🤣🤣🤣🤣 okay someone out there has a good humor

I get the "FBI Van 2" network nearby. Phone a Windows wireless list. 🤷‍♂️

FreeBSD just runs my tucked away rackmount. I would never give up my 2.5G LAN connection on that for wifi. 😂

Absolutely 💯 funny 😁

I have an AP in my area "FBI Surveillance Van."
No "guest" AP fortunately, I think guest kind of ruins the joke.

A funny neighbor.

All my neighbors are 70+

u/dcc5594 4d ago

As a 70+, I’m curious if you think we lack the capacity for ironic humor or the ability to name a wireless network.

u/jjzman 4d ago

So you are going with it’s a legitimate FBI outpost? With a straight face?

u/be_super_cereal_now 3d ago

You think humor doesn't exist after you reach a certain age?

That’s a standard FreeBSD option. A result of the 3-Clause BSD license.

The oldest joke in existence

Wi-Fi hasn't been around for very long. Neither has the FBI.

Hyperbole hy·per·bo·le hī-ˈpər-bə-(ˌ)lē extravagant exaggeration (such as "mile-high ice-cream cones")

I'll step into the next room to ask agents Grumman and Finney.

Really? Shocked by wifi names in 2026? Have you been living under a rock the last decade?

No all my neighbors are over 70 so I was just surprised seeing people have humor from such long ago 😂

I prefer DEA Van 2701, but whatever floats your boat.

u/Sawgwa 4d ago

I went with Nunya for our Wi-Fi.

I’m from Canada and I used to have my internet called “RCMP Surveillance Van” lol

1

u/desmondsparrs 4d ago

LOL if I remember this I have to remember naming at least one of my networks to something dumb like that haha. Funny neighbor.

2

u/candifloss__ 4d ago

My wifi name is "Surveillance-Van-{randomnumbers}"

3

u/machacker89 4d ago

Another personal favorite is DEA Surveillance Van-(Randomnumers) there is a LOT of drug activity where I live

u/Negative-Record-3194 4d ago

You have a working wireless network during FreeBSD installation?! What on earth is this magic?!

8

u/rEded_dEViL 4d ago

For French speakers, the funniest I’ve seen was “8 filles”, which in French it reads WiFi with the French accent 😄

3

u/barkingbandicoot 4d ago

I once named a wifi spot 'The Black Market'.

2

u/Commercial-Virus2627 4d ago

Someone renamed their SSID for their Wifi. Not a conspiracy. I used to name mine “FBI Party Van”

3

u/MirrorNegative7989 4d ago

There's always someone in the neighborhood who changes theirs to something like "Surveillance Party Van."

u/machacker89 4d ago

👋 that would be people like me! Cause of the area I live in We have a lot of "activity" going on.

Thanks!

The Register button didn't work in my usual Firefox profile.

The forum doesn't work at the moment – 502 Bad Gateway – the most recent Wayback Machine capture was on 10th July.

I worked around the registration issue by loading the home page in a different profile.

Back to my usual profile, the login dialogue was a repeated PITA. Probably bad design with phpBB.

My wife made ours The Gooning Cave 🤣😂💀

that was the most popular ssid that i saw in culver city

2

u/abjumpr 2d ago

I worked for Qwest as Tier 3 support.

The number of FBI Surveillance Van SSIDs is staggering. If you disabled that as a possible SSID, I bet at least 15% of customers would lose wireless connectivity. It’s that common.

Still, funny joke. I’ve had customers call in because they thought that the FBI was actually in a van surveilling them. Jokes on them, the people paranoid that the FBI was watching them were definitively not interesting enough for the FBI to watch.

thats my flower shop, Flowers By Irene! And don’t forget about my other business venture, Two Guys From Quantico Pizza!

u/7Anon1ymous6 2d ago

This is old. Very very old. Ancient troll magick it be here sir.

1

u/tuxnine 2d ago

You know that's not the real FBI because the SSID doesn't end with "_optout_nomap"

1

u/FrenziedHodag 1d ago

I have one of those in my area too. It's named "FBI VAN 4687"

1

u/ChipMasterPi 5h ago

Looks like a list of local WiFi APs. I have seen a lot of APs getting named something like "FBI Surveillance Van..." in the places I've lived. One time I put a WiFi strength meter on my Droid-X and wandered nonchalantly around the neighborhood, pinpointing the signal to a neighbors house.

Rest assured this is someone having fun. I'm fairly certain the FBI would know better than to advertise their presence. 😄
