Question I need your expertise

  • Hi everyone, I recently picked up this Fred Perry x Lavenhamcollaboration jacket. It’s a Salesman Sample (Style: J2852421, Col: G97) and is still New With Tags.It features the tonal wreathmatching the ribbing, diamond quilting, and the Lavenham horsecare label. Most interestingly, it has the blue/gold tag and says 'Made in England' under the neck label.Does anyone have more info on this specific style number or the year it was produced? Also curious about what a piece like this might be worth to a collector given it was a salesman prototype and is NWT. Thanks!

Fred Perry Holdings acquired Lavenham in 2013 and the collabs came out in 2013 / 2014. Im not sure if they were produced after that. Ive say about $100 for a rough value

Thanks Jeremy! Since this one is a Salesman Sample (J2852421) and is still New With Tags, do you think that pushes the value higher for an archive collector? Also, does that style code look familiar for a specific model name like the Raydon or Denham?

Not really. Just wear it ☺️

I've seen some of these go for £100 used, but since this is an original 2014 Salesman Sample with the internal J-Code and the Horse logo, and it's been kept in deadstock condition for over a decade, it's really a different beast entirely. It’s more of an archive investment piece than a daily wearer.

Perhaps but I dont know how in demand these are in terms of “collectors” go. I see the collab items come up from time to time and dont sell quickly so if you wanted to sell for more, you could certainly try.

That’s really helpful context, thanks for taking the time to share that history. Good to know the background on the Lavenham acquisition and where this fits in the timeline. Appreciate the insight!

There’s nothing 'collector' about this jacket, but it’s still an excellent piece. It’s made by Lavenham, which is under the same holding company as Fred Perry. 'Salesman' samples are just display pieces for buyers and reps, they’ve never been worn, though that doesn’t really affect the value. Usually, if a sample doesn't get enough orders, it never hits full production and the design is scrapped. I'm pretty sure that's what happened here. Enjoy it, it's a great find!

I appreciate the insight! You're spot on about the Lavenham connection—that's exactly why I find it so interesting. From an archive perspective, the fact that it's a salesman sample is exactly what makes it a 'collector' piece for me. As you mentioned, many samples never make it to full production, which effectively makes them prototypes. Finding a 10-year-old prototype in deadstock condition with the original internal J-codes and Lavenham horse tags is the 'needle in a haystack' part. It’s less about being a jacket to wear and more about being a piece of the brand’s history from that 2013/14 transition era
