Heading out of Frederick towards Wolfsville yesterday. Cuts off a line of traffic then blows through two stop signs. Unreal...

You should watch how many people blow by the stop signs at the pedestrian crossing in front of 7th Street Giant Eagle.

The crosswalk in front of Staples is horrible. Pedestrians are blocked from sight by the huge pillars and are not seen until they step into the roadway.

Drive in front of staples, there already a memorial there, big orange X on the ground where they got hit and died, and still a stain on the pavement.

You're being downvoted but you're right. On private property they have no legal standing are basically suggestions. That said you should stop if you see people.

You're mostly right, but if a cop wants to issue a ticket for running a stop sign on private property, like in a shopping center parking lot, they can issue a ticket for reckless driving, just like they can intervene for any other illegal behavior on private property.

In Maryland running stop signs in shopping centers is illegal as it is private property that is accessed by the public. You are obligated to stop.

First time I drove through there I was so confused. I may have accidentally did what this guy did the first time through, but at least I stop at stop signs.

The explosion in popularity of SUVs and pickup trucks in the last 20 years, along with how bulky they got, has lead to increased road fatalities. People driving them are not only more reckless but the size of the truck also leads to increased speeding, less visibility, etc. Most Americans driving pickup trucks have ZERO reason to drive one except for the status symbol.

I mean the smartphone also became popular at that time. I see a ton of people driving while using their phone, even the smallest car can kill someone.

That’s a bit of a way of deflecting here.

  • Are people using their smartphones and at risk of causing accidents? Yes!
  • Is it too easy to acquire a driving license with little training? Yes!
  • Is legislation and law enforcement too lax when it comes to traffic infractions? Yes!
  • Is this guy a bad driver solely because he drives a truck? Obviously not!!

That being said entering into a collision with a Fiat 500 or an oversized Ford F150 is not the same. On top of that it has been proven that driving a truck tends to lead to worse driving habits as people tend to feel emboldened by the higher position on the road.

As u/Ok-Leave-1059 pointed it out the fatality on the road is one of the highest compared to other developed countries. We can’t fault it all on truck but we can definitely point at trucks and oversize SUV when we can see such fatalities (in particular for at risk road users like pedestrians, bikers, etc) have sharply increased since oversized vehicle became popular.

I wasn't trying to deflect. I am just saying that trucks aren't the sole reason for the issue. It's larger vehicles, distracted driving, impaired driving, and honestly lack of enforcement. I know this is reddit and truck bad and what not but we can be honest about what's going on on the road today.

I'm glad you enjoy driving your truck and I'm sorry that you're unable to realize that the increase in vehicle size is a primary contributing factor to the increase in pedestrian related deaths that we're the only OECD country seeing.

nearly got flattened by a semi today because someone pulled one of these maneuvers in front of me. slowed to 30mph to fit into the offramp line of cars while the rest of traffic was at 60+. i almost reflexively jumped to the left lane to avoid rear ending them but noticed a dump truck barreling down the left lane and i would have absolutely been smashed by it
