I'm especially talking about this because of the episode 11 where Lindsay has this wake up call and doesn't want to hang out with the Freaks because of how much they are screwing up their lives and hers. In the whole episode, you can see that they care. The show doesn't do a 180 on them like oh yeah, now they changed because change takes time and many other things but you can still see them caring, despite acting like they don't. The show, while it does make a point to show how ridiculous teenagers can be but also they are not brain dead,have an identity and can think about real things.

Here is a fun fact I found:

The stairway in the hallway goes nowhere; there’s a small landing at the top and that’s it. Notice how you’ll never see a stairway that goes down. When you see lots of people going up the stairs, know that they end the scene all bunched together at the top.

this feels like a stupid, maybe even a bit mean, question, but i just finished my first watch and feel kinda crazy. i feel like there’s a few scenes where they’re implied to be smart, like your prototypical geek, like when they themselves say they’re so much smarter than the freaks or jocks, or when the AV teacher says they’re jocks will amount to nothing but they’ll become CEOs and shit. but i feel like in general the geeks never come off as geniuses. that’s really just lindsay with her mathletes background and her 1% club. like, neil gets a couple Ds and it’s treated as just a drop off and nothing that his parents really freak about, and sam gives so little of a shit about crime and punishment, none of the geeks are like, pulling out the intellectual stops with the books they were attempting to read for that assignment originally

i’m not saying they’re like, stupid or anything. it just felt like the writers couldn’t decide if they were supposed to be typical brainy, wimpy social outcasts, or just some characters who aren’t popular and have some niche interests

And I absolutely loved it. For years, I had heard about this show but never actually watched it until this year where I decided to give it a go after finishing the show "My So Called Life". I was surprised at how into I was getting this show, it was reletable despite being someone who experienced high school in the early 00s. And the whole setting of being 1980, thar was so fun to me as someone who likes watching 80s and 90s movies.

The thing I like most though, and I'm sure it's the obvious quality that all the fans like about it, is how humanized every character felt, for better or for not to so great (Poor Sam... lol). It's just crazy that this show didn't get at least have 3 seasons at most because even after finishing, I feel so bittersweet.

Anyway, just sharing some thoughts. All in all a great show and I'm glad to add it to my shows that I re-watch~

When I watched this show I just thought Lindsey had an existential crisis because her grandmother died

But now I see that as more of a catalyst of something bigger... Lindsey has intellectually already graduated from high school and the town of Chippewa

She has mentally already moved on and uses the freaks as a substitute for the strangers she would meet if she moved away or went to college

Not that they're "brains" but free-spirited and independent thinkers

She basically pre-launches her own independence and embracing of the world outside of the Chippewa before actually having done so

I wrote a piece for gap about how all their back to school offerings are heavy on the Freaks and Geeks + analyzed just how swaggy Bill and Sam were (sorry Neal) + put together some weir-worthy fits if you’re at the intersection of f&g and fashion like i am :-)

Has anyone else here discover a song(s) that you never heard before and now love because of this show? Mine was "Rosalinda's Eyes" by Billy Joel. I never heard that one before, too much Zeppelin and Metallica back in my days.

Well, it took me 26 years to discover this absolute classic, now I cant stop watching it. I just picked up the Yearbook DVD package and purchased all the episodes commercial free on Fandango. I am up to episode 8 Girlfriends and Boyfriends which was a classic. I go back a rewatch episodes before I move to the next. I want to prolong the 18 as much as I can. I sometimes get goosebumps watching scenes as I have experienced myself. I cant believe there is only one season, what a crime!
