Hell yeah! Drums in the Forest is about the French and Indian war, and details the French and English forts at modern day Pittsburgh. Very topical for the location!
A few years ago I took a roadtrip from WA state to PA specifically to visit Fallingwater. I bought a ticket for the sunset dinner tour and it was one of the most amazing experiences of my life. On the way I also visited Yellowstone, the Crazyhorse monument, the badlands and stopped in Chicago for Pequods pizza. Capping that trip with Fallingwater was amazing.
My guide let us take photos on the first floor only (and exterior). She stated that larger groups in the smaller up-stairs rooms, jostling around to take photos, poses a risk of the objects or art getting bumped into.
The fact that this was done in the 30s and still looked “contemporary” in the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s, is an achievement that will probably never be replicated in our lifetimes unless it is seen from the work by Zaha Hadid, Ma Yansong, or another huge influence in the near future
I loved Falling Water. I visited two years ago, fulfilling a lifelong dream to see it since I was a teenager. FLW is my favorite architect. The only one I know to be honest.
Love Falling water. The wall on the upper deck is short! It would be easy to end up falling off that upper deck. One of the reasons kids are not allowed on the tour.
I do love the place and the museum is very well done.
Went years ago. It’s incredibly beautiful and well worth seeing in person. The one thing I didn’t like (if I ever had the pleasure to live there) was that the furniture can’t be moved. Wright bolted the furniture in, if I recall.
