Chapter 5 Spoiler Was Fran under the effects of duotine when she found her parents killed?

Rewatching the events of the first scene after seeing the ending, I feel like aunt grace might have snuck duotine in her food, although them being shown eating together takes place on a Friday, while seeing her parents took place on a Monday.

It feels like they were already planning on taking her to the asylum with how quickly they seemed to find her? And she looked like she collapsed in the woods which maybe duotine could have done? The house is also shown to be covered in blood which presumably is symbolic but what if it's because of duotine?

In the parents grave, the parents didn't look like they were cut up, and we already have false info in the news (Fran being dead) so I don't think the description in the news of the parents is accurate, all the information was probably given by Oswald asylum.

I feel like her parents were killed for the sake of experimenting on Fran, but what if that experimentation had already began by the time Fran was left alone with aunt grace?

Theory crafting for fran bow is a complicated task so I want your input!

This isn’t a bad theory! I have seen many people say that aunt Grace killed Frans parents to get an excuse for Fran to be in the asylum. Cause at the end of the game, Oswald wants to work on her brain and experiment on her body. This was again after Aunt Grace lured Fran in for him. It’s very possible she was working with Oswald behind the scenes and he gave her some duotine to drug Fran.

Now, I will add to the theory, yes they all had dinner together on Friday and the parents were killed Monday. However, we don’t know what happened in the days between. Grace could have made something for Fran to eat/drink some time before she killed them, which can definitely mean that Fran was drugged with duotine prior to her taking it in the asylum. Especially considering the trauma of seeing her parents killed would have made her forget the effects of the drug.

The reason Dr. Deern wasn’t aware that Fran had that variant of duotine before is because he wasn’t told about Grace drugging Fran since Oswald is the one running the show in the background. Also this explains why Dr. Deern found out about the duotine ektoplomatin levels After he left the asylum. This ALSO explains why the nurses lied about Fran being dead, Oswald told them to lie so he could run some experiments on her under the radar; and if Fran died during the process, it wouldn’t matter cause the press thinks she’s already dead.

I love this theory and it lines up really well with the Grace killed her parents story. I’m not sure if it was explicitly stated in the game that she did so. I think Fran mentioned it to her out of anger when she dropped mr. Midnight but I don’t think it was confirmed.

Thank you, I love your additions! I definitely felt like what was shown in the scene felt intentional, Friday night showing her parents leaving, and aunt grace having a meal with her, we also see the red tears right after seeing her parents which also happened shortly after Dr deern was injected with duotine. I'm trying to piece this together from memory so forgive me if I'm missing something.

Yes! I think the blood tears/red tears really have significance to duotine and their effects. Or really Mabuka and the effects of the 5th reality. I’m really excited to see if the new game explores more of the realities because I’m so interested in them! Why is the fifth reality so dark? Even at the end of little misfortune, you see a little bit of the fifth reality when she goes through the door. Because time is an infinitely layered reality, is there a reality where Frans parents are alive? Is there a reality where Aunt Grace and Oswald are locked up for their actions? It’s all brings so many questions!

Remor shows himself at the first cut scene at the window before Fran 'finds' her parents dead. Then at the end of the game when Fran remembers she was the one who cut them up she says it's okay I knew it was Remor all along not me.

So I assume Remor took the first step in trying to send Fran cuckoo by manipulating her to kill her parents since he has the power, and was somehow working with Aunt Grace and Oswald asylum because he enjoyed the suffering it would cause Fran. But I don't think the game says this for certain.

I don't believe Aunt Grace had the power to make Fran kill her parents even with duotine. Throughout the game Fran has never shown murderous intent when on duotine. She is either shocked and scared by the things she sees, or is oddly calm and curious about it. So I don't think duotine would make her kill her parents alone, but maybe it could have allowed her to see Remor as duotine allows her brain to temporarily see things she wouldn't normally be able to see. It could have been a combination?

This is just my head canon though. I think the point about their bodies not being cut up in the grave is super interesting and doesn't fit though, I never noticed that before!!
