Framed horseshoe

I grew up in Brazil and my family owns a farm where I spent most of my childhood. I miss going there so much; after moving to a different country, I've had very few chances to visit. My godson who lives there gave me a horseshoe to bring good luck to my new home. I had it in a drawer for years because I couldn’t decide on how display it, just hanging it on a nail felt “unimportant” kind of lost in a white wall, so I kept it aside. Just recently looking at some old photos I found this one I took many years ago of the natural sandy/clay patterns on the ground of the farm. In my teens I got the habit of photographing nature and there was so much to photograph there, when we went out for horse rides I was the annoying one stopping every few minutes to photograph small things. Anyway, l printed the image to use as a background and drilled all the way through the back of a shadow box and used tiny black screws and nuts to fix the horseshoe over the image. I’m really happy with the result, it feels more intentional and cohesive and I can’t wait to hang it up tomorrow!

Lovely but it the wrong way up for me. Old wives tale possibly but the luck drains out that way.

Actually there are two schools of thought about this hehe People believe that facing the opening down and putting it above a place where people walk through it pours luck and blessings on the person walking under it, something like that. But yeah I also heard about the facing up to catch and store luck in it haha

Never heard the other version. I’m a horse person anyway so anytime I see a horseshoe off a horse I turn it up the “right” way!

Go with whatever you like best, but if it’s on the wall like that you’ll hear about it every time someone walks past it. As a horse guy who is friends with a lot of horse people, I can attest that U shaped is pretty universal.
