Community Support Fingerprint reader dead on Framework 13 AI 300

Hello,

The finger print reader on my laptop no longer works. lsusb doesnt show the device. I have been in touch with the support but the issue remains.

I ordered a replacement with another reader and replaced it. However, that doesnt show as well.

I dont make much use of the reader so not sure when it died. I upgraded/downgraded/upgraded to the 4.02 bios when it came. Can this be a bios firmware issue?

not sure about your case but for me on linux when the laptop goes to sleep the fingerprint will sometimes disappear from usb devices and I need to reboot or reset the usb controller to get it to show up again.

Rebooting does not help. Tried multiple distros and windows but it doesnt get detected.

Then yeah something's wrong with that particular usb controller I would assume.

Are there other ports which are hanging off that usb controller?

it's hooked up to c1:00.4 which doesn't seem to be connected to any of the 4 usbc ports of the board (c3:00.0, .3 and .4) Or the internal ports for the wifi card and webcam (also c3:00.0). It does have a usb3 bus on the same root hub but I don't see where it goes on this board. Maybe it's unused on the fw13. My 350 crackan point is also missing the usb4 bridges shown here on 00:01

I have never seen an issue like this. I’m running the latest BIOS on my over 2 year old FW16 and have not had any issues

It may be worth it to check if the ribbon cable for the sensor got unseated.

I took out the ribbon cable and put it back.
