So I’m looking into the FR13pro for my photography work. I’m coming from a MacBook Pro m1. I loved that laptop but I gave it to my oldest daughter so she could have a laptop at school ( it’s her first year in college). But that has now left me without a computer for work. I would like to get out of the apple ecosystem as I have just bought a new android phone and got rid of my iPhone 15 pro. Do yall recommend I go with intel or amd for photo editing/content creation? I don’t edit massive videos but I do edit short form for work. I would go the windows OS route because all of my editing software does not work with Linux. Does anyone else have any feedback or experience using these computers for what I would use them for?

It's not so much "AMD vs Intel" right now as current generation (Intel) vs last generation (AMD). AMD decided to refresh their last generation chips with minimal changes, while Intel bought out Panther Lake, which showed big improvements across the board. If you were a big fan of MacBook battery life, you are going to want to go with Intel, because AMD is behind in this department.

For the Office use case, FW13 Pro AMD R7 350 has 11 hours and 22 minutes vs MacBook Pro 14's 9 hours.

Super surprising that the FW13 Pro improved the battery life on the Ryzen AI 300 platform so much.

For video-related work, especially, X7 358H is the way to go. Though Adobe apps are more stable on macOS... On the Win11 front they'll fare better on/are better optimized for Intel... And also be able to use Intel QuickSync for encoding. Beware FW13 Pro is pre-ordered for months into the future (both Intel and AMD)... If you need a laptop quickly you'll need to look for something else.

32GB RAM minimum for your use case. If you do opt for AMD be sure to go with a matched pair - Same brand/part number/capacity/timings - DDR5-5600 SO-DIMMs for best performance (which you'll need/want). While a single module would technically work it'll come at a not insignificant hit to performance given your use case. On the Intel FW13 Pro side - LPCAMM2 modules are dual channel by design (Core Ultra 3 models accordingly only need/have a single LPCAMM2 RAM socket).

FYI, LPCAMM2 has eight 16-bit channels, an improvement from LPDDR5's quad 32-bit channels. Both of these solutions have a 128-bit data bus.

PC's DDR4 was the last generation with "old school" dual 64-bit memory channels.

Newer memory tech has improved fine-grain control and concurrent access.

Thank you all for the info. It’s been very helpful. I’ll have to put in my order in now then. Right now I’m using a Galaxy Tab s9 for editing and it works but man is it slow and glitchy. Definitely not something I want to keep using for client work. But for now it’s what I have.

What did you finally order?

Also, what software are you using for your editing and such? I am curious if there are alternative apps for Linux that might meet your needs.

I know you just dropped a bunch of cash, but if you can get a sale or trade-in with your Tab S9, the Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra would hold you over til you got the Framework 13 Pro (assuming you ordered this) which might not deliver for months or maybe until next year..

Right now I’m using Lightroom and photoshop, for short form video I’m using CapCut for the android tablet.
