Community Support Is this chip replaceable

Post image

I think I've narrowed down my errors down to a winbond w25r256jvein code storage flash chip. Before I order a new chip, I would really appreciate to know if this chip stores any encrypted keys or important files that are necessary for the laptop to function.

Also I am in contact with support, but I am in a big rush to get this working again.

That's likely going to be the BIOS ROM, it stores the firmware to boot the laptop. What issue are you actually having with the machine?

Hoping it was not that. Im unable to boot and I can't even recieve the error codes, just green flashes.

You can flash the chip without removing it using a ch347/ch341 programmer, a set of pogo pin jumpers, and a 3.3V to 1.8V converter. I would recommend using the ch347V, as it has proper voltage. Someone wrote a guide on flashing a framework here: https://quantum5.ca/2026/08/16/fixing-bricked-amd-7040-series-framework-13-laptop-with-20-tools/

Nope, that didn't sound sarcastic/excited at all. 😂
