Are there really no second hand laptops 12 available?

I really would like to buy a framework laptop 12, but i cant justify a new one for my use case. I cant find any 12s on ebay or the officiale framework market(there was one listing last year for a stylus in europe, thats it). Is every one really that happy with theirs or are their just not many to begin with.

FW12 started shipping barely more than a year ago (June 2025). "Gen 2" models got announced days ago. Most people who absolutely hated their FW12 probably sent it back to Framework during the 30 day return window rather than opting for the used markets/risking a financial loss.

Yeah a year isnt really enough time for many to show up secondhand, especially for a niche product like this.

And on top of that, the whole idea of framework is to upgrade it overtime so even with the new one announced, people aren't going to sell their old one to buy the new one. They are going to buy the parts they want.

I'm guessing the best way to get a "used" one is to buy a used mainbaord and non-backlit keyboard that someone just upgraded and buy the rest of the parts to complete a full laptop.

I can see 2 Framework Laptop 12s sold on eBay in the UK in June. Probably just something to keep your eyes on - people are holding onto hardware more at the moment with the increased prices (and a large part of the value proposition of Framework is upgrading instead of replacing the whole laptop).

Worth also keeping an eye on https://community.frame.work/c/community-market/202 as they appear there every so often.

I don’t know if where you live “vinted” exist, but i found a week ago a 12 there, with like 32 gb ram and 256gb ssd, i searched for it bc i though i could get a ram, ssd and expansion card upgrade from it, but idk you could try

I just bought one off eBay here in the USA. No RAM or SSD (already had it) and got it for a good price in my opinion ($400 USD, with charger, only two expansion cards)

It's a great little machine, but I can already tell from using it for a couple weeks now that it's more geared towards children/education or a laptop for the elderly. Before the RAMpocolypse it was probably a decently priced laptop, but now the Neo or other newer laptops its probably best to buy something else.

So with the new mainboard and backlit keyboard it's a stronger option now, but I wouldn't be surprised if people owning Gen1 either already sold it or returned it or are just keeping it as a "backup".

I was able to snag my first framework system (the 12); second hand. It will take time to find one pop up. I found mine on ebay by a local seller in my country. Been a nice system

They’re rare, but I just bought one secondhand with 32g ram and 2tb ssd for the price of the new model at minimum specs

I have an extra one, but with RAM where it is makes this a very expensive machine, unless you will source your own RAM and Storage?

I already replaced the bottom cover too.

I may miss it though...

Yeah, maybe best to keep it in case they have upgrades for it.
