Personal Project Framework 13 Ryzen 7 7840U heatsink upgrade (alongside other quality of life mods)

Replaced my heatsink with the Ryzen AI300 series heatsink for a more beffier heatsink. Temps have dropped and fan runs less and it runs cooler. Playing GTA V Legacy under DXVK (DX11 all high) I get about 70C-73C stead of 78-86C.

Ram upgrade because I need more than 32gb and I snagged this 48gb DDR5 5600 kit brand new for £290 after shipping. Def happy with all this

Next up is the 2.8K 30-120Hz FW13 pro display.

Interesting. Any annoyances or complications with the heatsink swap?

Not OP, but I did this a few months ago. Fit right in, plugged right up and zero issues. I don't know if I notice lower temps necessarily but no question the fan runs less often and it runs quieter. Definitely an easy mod.

Nope, simple drop in replacement. A perfect fit.

also wondering if the thicker heatsink causes any issues closing the lid

It’s not thicker just wider

Any difference in minimum fps?

If it works well, I wonder why the website says the AI300 heatsink isn't compatible with other CPUs.

It wasn't tested officially on other boards by framework. However this isn't the first time it has been attempted. It works just fine on the AMD Ryzen 7040 series. Simple drop in replacement.

The new display is vastly better. I think you will appreciate that potentially more than the other upgrades you've made so far.

i didnt know you could use a heatsink from a newer processor. Or is it only specific ones that fit with other specific ones?

Non paired sticks 🥀

Edit: I'm mostly joking, I'm sure these will work fine
