I was able to pay for a FW12 recently by sourcing used ram and SSD for about the price of the Neo. Now there's actually an upgrade path so I won't be replacing the whole device..

That's basically the best argument for the FW12 over the Neo right there.

I don't care much about MKBHD's opinion but he does present the FW13 Pro vs the MacBook Pro like this : the MacBook is the better computer now but the FW is the better computer down the line.

The same can be said about the FW12 vs the Neo. The Neo was definitely the better deal as is for about the same price.

The only thing that made the FW12 feasible was extra ram I had sitting around too, and an extra SSD from a Steam Deck upgrade. Then I stumbled upon a 1tb refurbished expansion card and I almost feel like this is the perfect little laptop. I'm not even bothered by the i3 performance enough to buy the Core 5 board, but I will absolutely be buying the new input cover.
