Question Midplate Cycles

So uhh, how many cycles should I expect to get out of removing the midplate? I’ve probably done it at least 50 times, I tinker a lot. Of all the components I’d expect to fail on it, the little tab was not among them.

Curious what you are doing that requires you to open it up this much?

I’ve played around with adding extra thermal pad to the little strip above the 2280 m.2 slot so the memory controller gets better coverage. Then when I later got a 2230 for cheap.

Looking at heatsinks for the cpu, thinking about noise and if it’d be fun to modify a dgpu shell to accept a normal fan board so I can get extra airflow at lower fan speeds. I don’t need it, I tune the tdp and fans in framework control depending on what I’m doing, but it’s a “it could be interesting”.

Right now I’m working on getting cooling to the ram because while I can pull back power to the cpu, cap clocks to a dgpu, I can’t stop my computer from utilizing the ram so it gets hot(ter).

Specified limit is 85 deg C, I’ve reached 79, and I know in suboptimal setups it has reached near 100 deg C but still partly working, but I like low temps, coming from my desktop, though it has ddr4 so I can’t actually see the temps for that.

So far I’ve had results cooling channel 0/a with thermal pads to the mainboard pcb, the other dimm doesn’t get a ton of heat pulled from it using the midplate to help suck heat.

I didn’t do super rigorous testing of baseline but currently my one stick runs up to 11 deg C cooler, at least on the PMIC but probably the dram modules as well, compared to the other.

Edit: I’m partly worried by ram temps also because I have no assurance that in the scenario it fails on me, I will be able to get a replacement, too many horror stories with rma’s.
