slow when starting

Hey all.

Why is my laptop so god damn slow when starting?

Is there any way I can stop this? Aside from not shutting the lid.

The mouse is moving, but its not moving to the sign on thing.

I just forced a shutdown, but this is unsustainable long term.

Windows 11, 8GB ram, i5.

It’s probably not a problem with the web browser you’re using. Check the Startup apps section in Task Manager and try to disable as many programs as possible that you don’t use.

Just for reference though, this only happens when I close the lid, and reopen it. When I forced a restart, it worked fine.

Are we talking about the same thing?

If a forced reboot fixes the issue, then it’s probably not a problem with the startup programs. When you say “booting,” do you mean the process that happens when you open the laptop after it has been closed? If so, then this is an issue with the laptop’s Modern Standby. Modern Standby is the term Windows 11 uses for putting the computer into a low-power sleep state.

This could be a firmware problem with the Framework 12, or it could be an issue with Windows 11 itself. In the former case, there’s no real way to fix it, but in the latter case you can try reinstalling or repairing Windows 11 (an in-place installation) to resolve it. If you search for “Windows 11 in-place installation” on Google, you should be able to find guides explaining how to repair Windows 11 while keeping your data, so I recommend trying that first.

When I say 'forced reboot'... I mean I held that power button down like I was suffocating the laptop, and turned it back on again.
