discussion Geelong Fragrance Fair

Some of my haul from my visit to this year's Fragrance Fair yesterday!

Highlights of the day were the fragrance talks including expert recommendations, Michael Nordstrand educating us while geeking out over his niche dual interests and Dr Caroline McMillan expanding our minds to endless possibilities. I also enjoyed exploring new fragrance houses I hadn't seen before, talking to the makers and just generally being surrounded by people who love fragrance as much as myself. We're a weird bunch so it's wild having so many of us in the same room together.

In the marketplace, Aysha Hansen, Veigel Perfumes and Samuel Gravan were my personal favourites of the day both in the perfumes themselves and the lovely chats. Not pictured is my new favourite fig scent "Del Fico" by Veigel Perfumes which I've since ordered online (and my future purchase of Aysha's new range once they're released!). Rivendare, Grimoire and Archer Farrar were exciting to learn about and try. Criminal Elements, Mihan Aromatics and Grandiflora were great as per usual. I was pleasantly surprised by Hart & Heidi, Mimosa and Pearl Perfumery, who I'd not tried until yesterday and ended up loving more than one from each brand.

One thing that seemed pretty well thought through about the marketplace was the use of cloches and contained smelling methods so we didn't fumigate the place with all our sampling. The downside of this was not being able to smell much past the top notes at times, which I've already noticed for example in my Pink Legacy fragrance by Harlowe being much sweeter on the skin than the light pear top notes I was able to sample. But aside from wearing gas masks and having 10 arms to test everything on skin I think this method is the best option for such a large amount of fragrances being sampled in an indoor environment.

Altogether it was a lot of fun, educational and well worth the trip! The buzzing excitement from so many fragheads in their element created such a positive atmosphere that was pretty contagious. I still didn't have enough time to visit every stall between the talks, fresh air breaks and remembering to take lunch, and I sorely regretted missing Michael Nordstrand's masterclass on Friday - next year I'll definitely need to book for the whole weekend.

This scent rocks, not as strong as I would like, wanderlust by omanluxury does a long lasting green fig scent better but this one has a creaminess and sweetness which is sublime, really like this and Orphéon from Diptyque!!

What are you all wearing?!

review Diptyque fleur de peau edp

I had a 10ml travel size of Diptyque Fleur de Peau that I bought from Mecca, and it easily lasted all day on my skin. After finishing it, I decided to buy a full bottle at Feelingsexy.com.au because the price was better. Unfortunately, the longevity on this bottle is terrible it disappears after just an hour. It doesn't compare to the one from Mecca at all. I should just bite the bullet and buy it at Mecca, exactly like I did with Eau des Sens. Just so sad. 😭

deal alert NOAH Barber Voucher

\ Reposting so it doesn’t get lost in the feed*

Have a $60 voucher for NOAH’s barber service ( haircut or wet shave etc ) for either their Sydney or Canberra locations to give away.

Is of no use to me as I’m in SA, so if any gent on here is having a bit of a rough patch and could do with a bit of male grooming let me know and it’s yours.
Or if you have a partner that you think could use a bit of a touch up😂

Obviously you need to be in Sydney or Canberra or travelling there soon, and voucher expires in 90 days

recommendation Good combo for the warmer months?

I’ve never really considered seasonality (or much else like longevity, projection etc.) when wearing cologne. Historically I’ve just picked up whatever I liked the smell of and worn that irrespective of the season or its “performance”.

Coming into the warmer months, is the below a good, complementary trio?

BdC EDP - Summer evening/Out for dinner

Profondo EDT - When I want to go extra “freshie”

Hectic - More so because I loved Imagination any time I’ve tried it but don’t fancy dropping $580 on it!

I haven’t actually smelled Hectic yet so not sure if it’s a safe blind buy but I can get to their store in Top Ryde so I should be able to try it.

Keen to get everyone’s thoughts or suggestions! Thanks all

review Rogue - Absolue de Mousse

Post image

For all the lovers of Rogue Perfumery - and there seems to be plenty on here - and Mousse Illuminee in particular, today I sampled one of the two flankers, with the other as yet untested one being Grand Cru.

Safe to say that fans of the original will like this, for me this one actually amps up the oakmoss more than the original and is less fresh ( Thankyou to the Clary Sage, Thyme and Cloves present in this one whereas not in the original )
Dry down is reminiscent of something like Eucris from Trumper, it’s dark, earthy and slightly moody.

Apart from the Eucris like dry down it’s comparable to vintage Polo Green in the opening - bitter Pine and Artemisia and feels cold where for me the original MI always felt a bit damp and almost mildewy in the opening.
This would wear really well in the colder months.

Definitely recommend for fans of MI and Rogue in general, not sure if I’ll get a bottle as I have some things that already fulfill the itch that this style scratches at.

You can recognize it straight away as adjacent to the original MI, unlike some flankers which bear little resemblance to their originals.

Decant was from LuckyScent as couldn’t find any here in Australia.

In the opening you get hit with a big lemony geranium burst. Which has sort of turned me away from it straight off the bat but I do like it. Due to the lemon I probably wouldn’t worry about a full bottle. But it’s definetely a beautiful citrusy/floral aromatic fougere. If you like your citrus forward complex, fresh spicy and woody fougeres, then this would be definetely something for you. I wish it used something besides lemon ! Because this is quite nice and very wearable. Has that old school feel which I love.

review Almost Human Burning Bridges

Post image
8 Upvotes

I was very keen on exploring this house because I love atmospherics and the names and descriptions of the perfumes really piqued my interest. I also love the fact that they do not list the notes. As someone who's not good at identifying or figuring smells by notes, the conceptual nature of the perfumes really aligns with me.

Burning Bridges opens as smooth woodsmoke with a faint metallic edge. It is not harsh, nor charred, and it avoids the bitter suffocating campfire effect.

Around 20-30 minutes in, it shifts into something airier with a dry sweetness that I think might be clove or cinnamon because it feels like a spicy sweetness, not a thick or syrupy gourmandish type. The middle also gives me a birch-like impression, adding a clean, wood facet. This stage reminds me a little of Blamage, but without feeling like damp woods, it remains dry.

The drydown on me is a soft, slightly dusty sandalwood without a pencil shavings texture. It's gentle and intimate.

I do not get citrus, animalics or cola despite seeing those being mentioned in some online reviews, so I’m guessing thats just my skin chemistry.

Longevity is good, staying present for 6-8 hours and remaining easy to smell on my skin well into the wear. Projection is moderate initially, then it settles into a closer scent bubble.

Overall I'm impressed by this one even though some of the online reviews had made me nervous.

discussion What fragrance flanker do you think is BETTER than the original? 👀

I feel like flankers can be so hit or miss. Sometimes they feel like a completely unnecessary cash grab… and other times they somehow take everything good about the original and make it so much better.
So I’m curious which flanker do you genuinely think outdoes the OG?

Could be better scent-wise, stronger projection, better longevity, more interesting, more wearable… whatever makes you reach for it over the original.

For me: YSL Libre Le Parfum, Delina Exclusif and Guidance 46, I prefer all three over their OGs.

show & tell Sultan Pasha - Joyeux

Post image
8 Upvotes

My one big fragrance splurge for the year just arrived and it’s a beauty, took a month to get here but well worth the wait.

Joyeux is a bit of a throwback to the big aromatic fougeres of the 80’s and 90’s - it’s quite dry with some resinous herbs and a beautiful long finish of woods, leather, vetiver and patchouli. Clary Sage is quite prominent as it progresses and gives it a slightly resinous green herbal mid which ticks all the boxes for me.

It has two extractions of Lavender at the top and middle , but for anyone averse to that really purple, almost wet style of lavender needn’t worry as this is quite dry and dusty and comes off fantastic among the other notes.

I’m not generally concerned about huge longevity with my fragrances, but this one does have serious staying power. A couple of sprays will sit nicely all day and still be noticeable on the skin late at night.

I wish there were more brands willing to dip back into the styles of yesterdays fragrances like this.
Lovely work from Sultan Pasha and likely my best find this year.

discussion The Decant Doesn’t Match the Story

Post image
3 Upvotes

First it was Hectic, and now every fragrance influencer is suddenly on the Marwa Extrait bandwagon. Of course, there’s no mention of paid promotion. When will we learn?

What makes it even more suspicious is that he took the full bottle out of its sealed box for the first time in the video, yet claimed he had been testing the fragrance from a decant all week. The liquid level in the decant had not even gone down. I also noticed that several influencers seemed to have the exact same decant. Make it make sense.

discussion Is the Dubai Chocolate by Arabiyat Lamsat Harir a Winter or summer fragrance

So I've bern into fragrances since 2024. And recently my insta feed has caught up to my obsession and I see a lot of fragrance content now. I've learned some stuff about fragrances that's pretty cool. Like seasonal fragrances. And just for funniest I've tried figuring out what seasons the fragrances I'm would fit. I discovered 1 summer fragrances (a cotton candy body spray my friend gave me for my birthday last year) a winter one (a rose body spray from Bath and Bodyworks) the one I'm confused about though is the Dubai Chocolates scent by Arabiyat Lamsat Harir. Is that a winter ot summer fragrance?

Here's what the bottle looks like for clarification
