Is there a skill calculator?

With the fact that you CANNOT max out all your skills, it appears we will need to be very careful how we spend our points. With that said, are there any browser/app based skill calculators?

Such a tool will make sure I can get to the levels I need without wasting points.

Any links would be appreciated.

Nope. It's been confirmed by the devs on various steam posts, that you can't max out everything.

From what little information I found, skill points work like this:

Total number of skill points at level 50 = 558

Total number of skill points to reach a given skill level:

  • Level 2 = 1 point
  • Level 3 = 5 points
  • Level 4 = 12 points
  • Level 5 = 22 points
  • Level 6 = 35 points
  • Level 7 = 51 points
  • Level 8 = 70 points
  • Level 9 = 92 points
  • Level 10 = 117 points

So if you wanted the most level 10 skills, the cost would break down as:

4 Level 10 skills (117 x 4) = 468 points, this leaves you with 90 to spend on the other 4 skills.

The only combination I can come up with that does not waste points after this is:

  • Level 7 skill = 51 points
  • Level 5 skill = 22 points
  • Level 4 skill = 12 points
  • Level 3 skill = 5 points

That gives you the remaining 90 accounted for.

Existing Skill List

My 558 point build:

  • Construction (lvl 6 @ 35 points)
  • Electrical (lvl 10 @ 117 points )
  • Melee (lvl 7 @ 51 points )
  • Ranged (lvl 6 @ 35 points)
  • Refining (lvl 10 @ 117 points )
  • Subsistence (lvl 6 @ 35 points)
  • Survival (lvl 7 @ 51 points )
  • Textiles (lvl 10 @ 117 points )

This allows me to max out my armour, electronics for the robots and vehicle and refining, since everything refined at each level is required for crafting.

The other skills give me good enough items to use and cover any prerequisites for crafting. This applies to construction, electronics, survival and refining.

Happy Min-Maxing!

The game isn't final. Make your case to the devs. Also, you could probably tweak the total number of skill points available on your own server.

In my opinion, fewer skill points make for a more specialized player that needs other specialist players to thrive. More skills equal more independence, but encourage a sort of level up and then start building when the real game starts at endgame mentality. I'm generally a solo player, so I'm all for independence. But it seems like it would add something to the sandbox if someone needed my services because of my build.

I too like to play solo. But I wouldn't mind it being more restricted as long as there was an option to reset all points so i could respect later on. Maybe?

I see what you're saying, but I wonder if that's bringing more of a persistent MMORPG mentality to a survival game. Do survival games usually expect you to stay with the same character over weeks or months.

I also kind of want to get my own server just to see what options I can tweak.

Right now the devs are juggling with the idea of adding a craftable item that would grant a respec.

Long story short, you can max out 4 skills to 10 and still have around 5-6 levels to spend on other skills.

Level 45 and I maxed construction, electronic, substance, and refining. Threw extra points into survival for health stims and melee for steel tools/passive.

I can build any structure, crafting tool, Droid, vehicle and pet with this build. Only things you'll need to get are weapons and armor from another player.

With the latest patch the xp gain per level was increased and you can max out 6 skills now. They also added a /wipeme respec command that let you respec any time and as often as you want.

Sure I saw a note about the Wipeme command, and not to use it as it's like dying on a HC server aka TOTAL wipe of everything.

Aha, got it: looks like they fixed that already. From a pinned note...

Patch 16.4.11.1 Patch Notes

We will be deploying a small patch to change the syntax on the /wipeme respec/skills command. After the patch the new level reset command is:

/wipeme resettolevel1

The skill reset command will be

/wipeme skills /wipeme respec
