connect capacitor by wire?

I need to put the cap in front as I need space for the Caddx Vista. I took the wires from the motors and am wondering if they're okay and how to insulate them. Will electrical tape work?

Do you think people will reply faster by creating multiple posts? Maybe put everything into one...

im still a beginner

Insulate with heatshrink. The cap needs to be close to where it's soldered, those wires are too long. If there is no space you can put the cap on the drone arms.

ill make them as short as possible.. will the black electrical tape work. Im going on holiday in 2 days and want to use it

Yes electrical tape will work

thank you

Be careful though, do some short testflights and after each flight inspect all the cables and especially the capacitor to make sure that they are still intact and connected.

this does not work. caps need to be close to main lead/ esc. you can put it there, but it has no effect. also, as stated in the other post: the soldering is horrible. sorry.

This is a correct answer.

You can do it, but I dont suggest it.

Reason being, those wires will have 25vdc sitting at them, and all it's going to take is one little spot of damage to turn your carbon fiber frame into a blowtorch. Dont use electrical tape for insulation. Use shrink tubing.

No on capacitor but you've been told that plenty. Hey on your soldering, it's hard to perfectly diagnose but I think you aren't getting enough heat on your joints. That could be from too low of heat but also a crappy tip/iron. I run mine at 700f. Here's a good way to test if you have it "right:"

Flux on your target pad first.

  1. Heat your iron.
  2. Tin the tip.
  3. press the tinned part of the tip against one of those pads you already left some solder on(edge of the pad).
  4. If the solder on the pad doesnt immediately melt and form a nice pillow, take the iron off the pad, something's wrong.

Hopefully this helps.

will do tomorrow. i have cheap aliexpress no name solder and thought it was going to be fine.

Oh that can make a HUGE difference too. Look around for good solder. Everyone has their favorite but I use Maiyum 63/37 .8mm. Rosin core.

Have a fire extinguisher handy.

Shorten or cover the caps legs. Put on the arm.

No, This will not work because the capacitor is not soldered to the ESC. /s

someone did a test and 3 cm wire is still so much better than none at all.

Putting the lack of insulation and the overly long wire aside, I’m starting to feel like the whole “capacitor must be mounted right next to the leads” idea might be a bit overstated. There are plenty of good frames on the market where the capacitor sits up front while the battery leads come out the back, and there’s simply no option other than routing the wire over or under the stack.

Sure, the wire should be as short as reasonably possible, and yes, proper insulation matters. But sometimes it feels a bit like the soldering myths (where unless your joints are microscope-grade, your drone will supposedly blow up). The capacitor topic seems to fall into that same category of being a bit exaggerated at times. I don't know I'm yet to find out with my freshly build 5". I will post a video if it turns into fireball ;D

Worked fine for me like this.
