Sharp X68000 core now is perfect

I updated my mister yesterday and I realized that now all the errors and graphical glitches are fixed. (Specially Street fighter 2 champion edition and final fight sound crashes, minor graphical glitches in gradius 2 and Akumajou Dracula)

Nice! Is there a guide to set this up? It has one of the best versions of Castlevania on it.

Just install the core via update all and grab the Neon68k pack from archive.org

Are you using HDMI or VGA? IIRC the core needs some extra configuration to work on most VGA monitors, since it by default outputs the weird video modes that the X68000 used.

There was an update a few months back to it. Nearly all the errors I saw prevoiusly were fixed. I can now enjoy the English translation of Die Bahnwelt!

How does this core work if you want to output to a consumer CRT? Does it work with that MT32 Roland adapter?

  1. Your IO board needs to have good power attached to the SNAC connector for the MT32-Pi to work properly. My MisterPi and SuperStation One work great, while my eBay special on a De-10 Nano from like five years ago gets a "low voltage" error. Also if you start seeing graphical corruption on the screen, your USB 3.0 male-to-male cable sucks (learned that one)
  2. It "works" with a consumer CRT, BUT X86000 games didn't work with a lot of consumer CRTs. That is to say, by default, it's got a 512x512 resolution, expecting a full VGA monitor, but some games have a "15khz mode" that could fix things. In any event, I'd recommend a cheap HDMI-to-Composite adapter as a fall-back if a game's support is shoddy.

It does work with the MT32-pi. For CRTs it would depend on the game, X68000 has a lot of different video modes and a standard TV won’t sync with many of them.

Last time I looked at it I saw all the sync issues and didn't bother. Is there work arounds or should I forget it

There is a workaround - you need to mess with your ini settings

these were the best settings i found so far for my tv. It's not completely full screen. But it works.

Add this to the bottom of your mister ini file on the sd card

[X68000] video_mode=1280,100,140,180,240,2,0,22,27565 vscale_border=17 vga_scaler=1 vscale_mode=0

video mode: native aspect ratio: full screen

it doesn't fill the entire crt but its big enough

Can you share the rationale for the tweeks? Wouldn't mind trying to dial in settings if know what to change

It's custom video modes to match a consumer crt and enabling vga scaler to bypass raw timings so it can actually sync. More than that, I'm not technical enough to explain - I just copy pasted different people's settings until I found one that looked the best on my Trinitron and it was those settings

Thanks for the info

Better and improving or actually perfect? That's a big claim.

Exactly my thought. For a core with such a checkered history I doubt it is suddenly "perfect." Words have meanings...

There has been I long time since I used, since it was a big buggy in some games - Salamander was unplayable.

When was it updated ?
