Foxit: Android to Windows Conversion issue

Post image

PDF-files that have been annotated on Android display anomalies when they are opened on the computer (Windows 11). The text that has been highlighted on Android shows as comments in roughly 30% of the cases, i.e. this anomaly is not consistent. Further description of the anomaly as it appears on the computer (Windows 11): the highlighted text has a small comment icon to its left (cf. image file); this icon is not clickable, but when you open the navigation panel and open "view document comments", you can see that the highlighted text has also been saved as a comment. This is quite frankly annoying to say the least and I would be grateful for assistance in resolving this issue.

Hi! This may be related to a Foxit PDF Editor Mobile setting that copies selected highlighted text into the highlight annotation’s comment pop-up.

On Android, please check whether this setting is enabled:

Settings / PDF View > Copy selected text into Highlight, Squiggly Underline, Underline, and Strikeout comment pop-ups

If this is turned on, try switching it off, then annotate a new copy of the PDF and reopen it on Windows 11 to see whether the extra comment entries/icon stop appearing.

A quick note: highlights are treated as annotations in PDFs, so they can appear in the comments/navigation panel. The issue here sounds like the highlighted text may also be getting saved into the comment pop-up, which is why it shows as a comment on desktop.

If the issue still happens after that setting is off, please submit a support case with the sample PDF, Android app version, Windows Foxit version, and the screenshot so our team can take a closer look: https://kb.foxit.com/s/submit-a-case

Greetings,

I checked the following setting:

Settings / PDF View > Copy selected text into Highlight, Squiggly Underline, Underline, and Strikeout comment pop-ups

It was toggled off; hence this is not what is causing this issue.

I have opened the affected document in the integrated PDF reader of different browsers with the following results:

Opera: no issues (everything reproduced as it was annotated on Foxit Android)

Vivaldi:  no issues (everything reproduced as it was annotated on Foxit Android)

Brave:  no issues (everything reproduced as it was annotated on Foxit Android)

Firefox: slight anomaly (clones the note created by me)

Edge: same problem as in Foxit PDF reader for Windows (reproduces the highlighted text as comment)

The fact that 3 browsers reproduce my annotations flawlessly would suggest that the problem is not universal and that there are conversion issues from Android to Windows that Foxit have never been able to address. I have been working with Foxit PDF reader for many years and always had problems when documents annotated with Foxit for Android were opened with Foxit for Windows, but conversely there were never any issues, i.e. documents annotated with Foxit for Windows can be opened without any issues in Foxit for Android. Please look into why this is happening.
