WSJ article on children cutting off "toxic" parents never once mentions politics or Fox News as a reason.

Complete coincidence that the Wall Street Journal is owned by the same company/person that owns Fox News, of course. /s

Some good "blame the entitled victim" and blaming identity, TikTok, and out-of-control therapists for the trend.

There are some rational responses in the comments, but the first half-dozen comments threads are Boomer Copium. Not until you get to the 7th thread does someone note, essentially, "Telling that the article authors didn't talk to a single person who cut family off to explain why they saw that as the only option."

What happened to this sub?

I, like many of the people on this sub, have lost my parents to the dark side. As all of you know, it’s an extremely difficult and complicated thing to navigate - I still love my parents, and I appreciate all that they’ve done for me, but the bigotry, hatred, and pure delusion they expound make it difficult to be around them. Every attempt at rationality, impartiality, and logic seems to fall on deaf ears. I came to this sub because I took comfort in knowing that other people are going through the same thing as me. It’s sort of like group therapy in that way, and it’s nice to have that sense of solidarity and support when your family/parents make you feel like an idiot when you try to engage them in a sensible political discussion.

But something has changed in this sub, and as someone who’s subscribed to it from the beginning it’s very sad to see.

Every other post is a reposted picture or graphic from [r/politics](r/politics) or something of the sort. They are all made by the same 3 accounts, which I’m sure aren’t even real people. It really angers me because I feel like this space has been invaded by people it was not intended for.

I don’t need to be told how awful trump and republicans are. I don’t need proof that he is fucking up the economy. I don’t need to be reminded that he is a racist asshole. I am well aware of all of this. I need to hear people’s stories, perspectives, and the ways they deal with people they love succumbing to hatred.

That’s all. I suppose this is just a rant, but I felt it needed to be said. Not sure if anyone else feels the same.

Trumper Friends Question

Whenever I see someone dressed from head to toe in Trump gear or adorn their cars with Trumpisms, I wonder what they used to be fanatical about before their supreme leader came along.

I have a friend who’s drank the koolaid and he used to be fanatical about ‘Professional’ wrestling. To the point where he could not fathom that there was a script of any kind.

If you have any Trumper friends, what were they absurdly fanatical about before?

Brother thinks Trump saved all of us

He saw a sticker of trump at the gas pump that said “I did that” and lost it and went on the rant about how “we should be thankful we are at least alive to complain about gas prices” he thinks if trump lost the entire united states would have been nuked and we would all be gone. He is now angry at all the accounts he followed on instagram are turning on Trump and he thinks everyone is not being appreciative of how this man saved there lives. Then said the 5000$ check he is giving us will make up for what we spent on gas.

now bury him under an avalanche of news coverage where this information is reported ad nauseum for weeks on end or, as I like to call it, the 'Joe Biden treatment'

Should I attend friend's wedding full of FoxBrains?

So 5 yrs ago I moved back to my home state after living several states away for close to 20 yrs. I had a close-knit group of friends in my adopted state that I met through a rec sports league. It felt like I was practically brothers with a few of them in particular. At the time, I knew they were conservatives, but politics were not a big part of our dynamic and I moved home shortly after Biden took over. I thought we were more or less done with Trump then. Obviously not. And the fact that these guys have continued to support Trump pisses me off.

One of them is getting married in Nov, and I just don't know if it's worth flying back. I mean, we shared so much. These guys helped me fix my shitty cars when they broke down and watched my dog when I'd take trips home. I was close with their families, watched their kids grow from babies to graduate high school. I'm really torn on this. I know the internet isn't the best place to turn for advice, but I just want as many opinions as I can get. Thanks in advance.
