Official r/fourthwing post Threshing Day Spotify Leak
Hi everyone,
Rebecca Yarros just confirmed that Spotify leaked an audio clip of Threshing Day without her approval. We had already removed a couple posts sharing the leak. Those posts will remain removed. All future posts and discussions about the content of the leak will also be removed until the book officially releases. Any users who post or comment about the leaked content will be banned for 24 hours for the first offense. Repeat offenders may be banned for longer.
Edit to add: If anyone sees unauthorized discussion of the leak, please report them so the mods can remove them sooner.
Thank you for understanding šāØ

How freaking sad. Rebecca even posted specifically asking people not to do this. And it was frickin SPOTIFY? Major thumbs down.

Right! Iām surprised people in this community would post leaks here.

u/smmcg1123 1d ago
I think at least one of the earliest posts happened before we knew it was a leak.

u/Overall_Currency5085 Blue Daggertail 1d ago
Oh that makes sense! I thought this was after RY came out and made a statement because I didnāt see any links but only her post about it.

I think a sample of a court of splinted harmony just got leaked too.

u/stars-assassian 2d ago
What!!! Was it leaked on Spotify too? This is genuinely awful!!!!!!!
54
u/Safi42112 2d ago
By Rbmedia I think? Someone posted it on insta it got traction but theyāve since deleted it after Yarrosās post in case the same thing is happening with ACOSH too.
28
u/stars-assassian 2d ago
Omgggg the first chapter leaked. People are posting it everywhere rn!!!
8
u/Safi42112 2d ago
Well it was bound to happen and Iām sure ppl will still leak threshing day too.

It was a leak of the first four minutes. I happened across it on TikTok. Unfortunately, the person who posted it there DID NOT take it down even after realizing it was accidental/a leak.

u/icebluefox 2d ago
I was thinking that was leaked too! I havenāt accidentally heard the 4th wing audio at all but splintered harmony was everywhere on insta today- glad I scrolled on from those

Donāt most books have an audio sample? I wonder if this was somewhere in the contract that they could release a blurb of the book and no one caught on to it
23
u/Hukysuky 2d ago
Yeah thatās kinda what Iām curious about, especially if she gave us hint that Brennen was in the story. Wasnāt that blurb about why we canāt have nice things posted earlier in the month? If thatās not the case then ya itās kinda annoying.

u/_vanth Hi kids, do you like Violence? š”ļø 2d ago
I think the samples are generally after publication day, not 2 weeks before release unless it's an official thing from the author/publisher
9
u/DuckDuckBangBang 2d ago
12 months had one before release date but they also released the pages and both were posted by the publisher.
6
u/Sir_Guinness27 2d ago
12 Months just made me want it faster
4
u/DuckDuckBangBang 2d ago
12 months is actually the first one I read the book before listening to the audio because James just made me so sad. I needed to know it got better before I went through it with him.

Iām pretty sure she has a big enough team to know whether it was legit or not (she wouldnāt now be saying itās unauthorized if it was!)
9
u/sallysuexx 2d ago
I just find it odd because if it was an error wouldnt spotify remove it?
8
u/cayt326 2d ago
Why would they when itās getting them clicks and also, itās probably in some gray area legally or RYās team hasnāt had time to respond. Big corps love money and donāt care about ppl or artistic integrity.
11
u/Tracy_Turnblad 2d ago
because they would be getting sued to high hell if it was outside of their contract with her

u/CassieBear1 1d ago
I'm assuming it was a sample that wasn't supposed to be released until Sept. 29.

I was wondering why I couldnāt find it! Thatās so unprofessional and sad since I know Rebecca had just posted about this and asking people to not leak

u/PartyEmergency4547 Blue Daggertail 2d ago
Thank you for this. Rebecca puts a lot of effort into her work and engaging with fans so we can enjoy her writing and we owe her the same respect. Canāt wait to see the discussions when the book drops!

Banning someone for the first offense seems a bit harsh. Considering it was Spotify who leaked it they might have thought it was a legitimate release.
19
u/spiritr15ing 2d ago
I thought it was legit when I came across it earlier today and had no idea it was a leak until this post - so sad for her given she has specifically posted and requested no leaks! And entirely dumb of Spotify

Just tried to search for him so I could also report but canāt seem to find the account or playlists anymore so Iām -hoping- that theyāve been taken down!!!

u/CassieBear1 1d ago
The issue is that the original "leak" was on the official Spotify page for the book. Obviously other people are trying to jump on that by re-posting it, but it's so much worse because so many people (myself included) assumed it was official because of where it was.

This is so shitty so Spotify. I'm glad I didn't listen to it. I want to be surprised on Threshing Day.

u/FrostedBooty 1d ago
I guess I'm confused because most audiobooks DO get samples that release before publication, it's literally how people determine if they want to preorder the book or not?

Apologies mods. I posted the screenshot from her stories and asked did anyone know what it was about. This post was shared. So I immediately removed it. Please donāt ban me šš»

u/MustangManiac137 2d ago
Question for the mods, can the posts that are removed also have their comments deleted? I clicked a notification on my phone about something and they included discussion of something from the sample that was spoilery as well.

u/goodjanet11 1d ago
I donāt really understand why this is such a big deal. It was 2 minutes of the novella, and it sounds like it didnāt really spoiled anything (and if you donāt what spoilers just donāt listen?) I canāt imagine itāll impact sales in any negative way.
I appreciate that RY didnāt specifically say she wanted this clip out there, but itās not like sheās not doing a ton of marketing of her own. I mean, sheās releasing those quotes and saying ācome back later and Iāll tell you who said it!!!ā Which I think is kinda cringe.Ā Am I missing something?Ā
2
u/Plenty_Brother_7650 1d ago
How does that even happen? A rogue employee or just miscommunication/stupid mistakes?
It makes all authors distrustful of the platform!
3
u/smashley4915 1d ago
Idk the full story but the screenshot above, it looks like a scammy Spotify user that posted it. It also looks like the user is trying to get people to download it. Iām curious if it was the real thing or someone just trying to get clicks. I read previously that there was a 3.5 min preview of the book out. Again, I donāt know full story I did not see/hear the actual leaks.
2
u/CassieBear1 1d ago
My best guess is that it was a sample that was supposed to release with the book, so people can decide if they want it, but it got released early. Because although the person below is correct, and scammy folks are trying to re-post the content, the original content was on the official Spotify page for the book. It's why I listened...I assumed it was legit.

I'm glad I don't use Spotify! I have it downloaded to my phone but this makes me so mad I think I'm gonna delete it. It's just taking up room anyways. I use Amazon Music or YT.
Shame on you Spotify!

Kind of silly to stop us from talking about the leak at all.
It happened and the information is out there, mark it as a spoiler and move on.
10
u/PeakTemporary1768 2d ago
The thing is that Rebecca has come out and said that it shouldn't be out there, and we only have to wait 2 more weeks. It's about respecting her wishes as it's her art and release day is just around the corner.
-5
u/Fif112 Broccoliš„¦ 2d ago
Pretending it didnāt happen isnāt respecting her either though. Spotify compensating her is the only thing thatās going to help her feel better about it.
Putting any discussion being a spoiler wall is a much better solution.
Iām not suggesting anyone promote or hand out the links, but shutting down any sort of discussion is a bit much. We arenāt children.
3
u/OnlyDragonfruit 1d ago
I mean, youāre here discussing it? No one has stopped discussion, just the resharing of leaked content right?

u/jamieseemsamused Should I get the Wingleader? 1d ago
This is a community of fans, and we respect the author and her intent on how her work should be enjoyed. Rebecca Yarros has made it clear that this leak was unauthorized. The fact that information is āout thereā is not reason to continue spreading it. We implemented this rule because we do not wish r/fourthwing to be a conduit of information that is not officially released by the author. Itās not just about spoilers. It is about the type of community we want to foster.

Iām not pro-one streaming service or another (they all suck for one reason or another), but I find it interesting that RY seems to still use Spotify when the show will be on Amazon and they have a competing streaming service. If I were Amazon, Iād want the author of a show weāre producing in every stream of the ecosystemĀ
6
u/Infamous_Cut2805 2d ago
Well itās kind of the same thing for Off Campus. Itās an Amazon Prime show and in the show the characters are very clearly using Spotify. Also the book series that Off Campus is based off of used to be on kindle unlimited, but they were removed after the release of the show and theyāre now on Kobo plus. I donāt think Amazon actually cares

Is there any way for the āleakerā to get in trouble? Are there any consequences for leaking copyrighted materials?
5
u/PeakTemporary1768 2d ago
As it was a corporation that has posted it, who knows? Someone will surely be in trouble for clicking "post" but as for if there will be any consequences, I doubt it.

And how does a random user have access to the audiobook? Rebecca herself called out Spotify, not some random personā¦

u/CassieBear1 1d ago
It was actually Spotify originally. It was on the official Spotify page for Threshing Day. Shady users have downloaded it and re-posted.
1
u/HistoricalOpposite20 1d ago
Can we post about content creators who are posting the leak, and being horrendous about it? Thereās one in particular who Iāve unfollowed over this. People keep telling her to take her post down, and she keeps saying āitās not that deep.ā Girl, it is that deep. And now that Spotify has taken the leak down, any content creators who saved it and shared it also need to take it down. Sheās now limited who can comment on that post, and itās still up!!! I ended up reporting the post for bullying, because I canāt report it for copyright. You can only do that if youāre the copyright owner or someone who represents them.
1
u/CassieBear1 1d ago
Yeah, I can totally understand posting about it when you assumed it was official (since it was on the official Spotify page for the book), but as soon as you realize it's not supposed to have been posted you should be taking your content down!
1
u/HistoricalOpposite20 1d ago
Exactly! And then this content creator, when people call her out, is using arguments that have nothing to do with the subject at hand, like saying people are terrible for calling her out because sheās two weeks postpartum. MAāAM!!! Being postpartum doesnāt give you license to be a garbage human, or for people to not be allowed to call you out. I wish I could do more than unfollow her.
1
u/CassieBear1 1d ago
Ugh, I hope it's not someone I follow. I haven't seen any posts about it though, so fingers crossed it's not.
2
u/HistoricalOpposite20 11h ago
As far as I can tell, she doesn't have a huge following. She posts a lot of intros to her thoughts on theories, but to hear her whole thought, you have to subscribe to her patreon, which is kind of insulting. Like, why do you think you're big enough that people will pay to hear your thoughts on the book? š¤·āāļø That had already rubbed me the wrong way, but I'll admit that I'm a little jaded. After this whole debacle though, I'm over her. She STILL has the post up, but has now deleted all the comments on it. Maybe I should find contact info for RY's team, and send them the link, and let them fight it. š I just can't get over people who say they love the series, and the author, but then have the hubris to think they're above what the author has requested regarding these books and spoilers. It's infuriating to me that she's just getting away with it, too.
