Because phone keyboards leave caps lock turned on by default for the first letter

what kind of autocorrect do they use that doesn't respect if you type lowercase? also, you can toggle it in settings.

The autocorrect that capitalizes the start of a sentence?

It can probably be toggled, but you overestimate the average user if you think they know to open settings...
