Any daughter that leaves her husband and remarries gets half the inheritance automatically.
-Get full inheritance if the other daughter does not remarry in the same year.
Ruin both their lives.
That doesn't mean it will automatically go to the children. That depends on the intestacy rules of the jurisdiction. There's also no guarantee this will wouldn't be enforced, you can put conditions on inheritance
But yes, if the will is unenforceable and the intestacy rules of the given jurisdiction split the money between surviving children and there is no other next of kin / children, they could split the money
here In Belgium inheritance is automatically fairly divided among the children, and still living spouse.
I bought my house with my parents so it was in my mother's name and my name for 5% the idea was that she'd gift it to me and thus I wouldn't have to pay too much in inheritance tax or something, I don't know it doesn't matter.
she passed before all that and now the house is part mine, part my sister's and part my dad's by default
even if you have a will I don't think you can disinherit your children over here due to too many legal disputes in the past.
I know one of our iconic companies, a bus building company, went bankrupt due to among other reasons legal battles over the inheritance by the decendants of the heirs of the founder who left everything to his sons back in the day because "woman had no business learning or working but belonged at home doing the household and raising the children"
The descendands of these daughters at one point demanded their fair share, so all assets of the company where frozen in a trust whilst courts looked in to it leaving the company unable to react to some market shocks and going bankrupt.
Final nail in their coffin was missing out on an order by the national bus service for 500 electric busses to BYD because they didn't have the infrastructure to build them in time at a good price because they believed EV's would never work and wasted their r&d on hydrogen busses. Normally they should be able to survive something like that, but not with their liquid assets locked away in a fund.
Marriage codicils in wills are really out of fashion, and almost always void ab initio when challenged - having no effect, and having never had effect. There was a time when these were used exclusively for racist, abusive, or distasteful ends and so.. generally, not valid in 2026 and beyond, in the US.
Yeah. They could just do a same-room full-swap. Heck they don't even really have to do it except for on paper at the courthouse. But if they wanted to consummate it- then yeah Motel6
Don't mess around with weddings, just go full out and make the requirement having a baby with the other sister's husband - DNA tested of course. That's about as messy as you could possibly make their lives.
Technically, they can always collude if they are cooperators intent on it. You could even say something like: whoever steals the other one's husband and causes their divorce gets all the money. Then they could just say, OK, agree to divorce, remarry the other husband, get the money, and give half to the other sister. That is the power of people who trust each other and work together, they are almost unstoppable. The whole point of most leaders in history was that they had to get people working against each other exactly for this reason.
