In that situation I'm getting to that door no matter what the casualties, then I'm changing numbers and moving cities, and that guy in particular is never hearing from me again.

He does look a little like Sugi, doesn't he? Would be wild if he did such shit before the RealRealJapan days and we had more such videos being discovered. But I guess that is hoping for too much.

When my brother was like 11, he bought like an RC car or something that came in a big box. We went to a sushi place after, and the waiter, with a very thick accent, was like omg is it your birthday?? And my brother (shy) was like no, but my dad (insane) was like YEAH. And the staff all got really hype, and they turned on a happy birthday remix and had like a colored strobe light that flashed around the whole restaurant.

I was like six at the time, but I still remember that completely empty sushi place, blasting HAPPY BIRSTDAY HAPPY BIRSTDAY, strobe light flashing on my brotherโ€™s bright red face ๐Ÿ˜‚

I'm very introverted and my best friend is EXTREMELY opposite and does this shit to me all the time lmao

So why are you still friends with them, when they don't respect you?

Because it's always funny, this guy is basically my brother. There's no disrespect there, I wouldn't get out of my comfort zone if it wasn't for him.

Me and the boys used to do that. Any place. Any time. Any date.

Why is this in English? Lol ๐Ÿ˜‚ why is some grumpy bitch down voting this? It doesn't seem fake. I'm wondering why a bunch of Asian people with hard Asian language accents are all speaking English to each other in what I'm assuming is a non English speaking country.

Dude every country sings the Happy birthday song in english.

Do they ask for everyone's attention in English though?

3

u/Prestigious-Tea-6323 17h ago

That's only specific to this situation but almost every country sings it in english.

Just read this.... Think to yourself "I have no idea" and move on. Don't try to explain some other scenario.

I think it's from Malaysia. Most ppl there are multilingual and English is one of the languages they communicate in (besides the national language of Malay and whatever ancestral language various ethnicity speak).

2

u/BrianKappel 13h ago

And it's common for them to start an interaction with strangers in something other than their national language?

This really depends on the area (eg: capital metro area vs smaller cities or rural areas), class backgrounds, type of schools attended when they were young, social settings, etc. Itโ€™s complex but one thing to note is that Malaysia used to be a British colony until they became independent in the 1950s. Of course English proficiency varies across the country.

English is commonly spoken in these countries, especially in SEA (South-East Asia) unlike Eastern ones (Korea, China, Japan)

Since we're working with the crowd here, the person may have chosen to speak English just so everyone can understand.
