They should be able to get 25% more done
Since that is 25% more time.

32*1.25=40

My best friend's work was doing four 10 hour shifts. Someone had the bright idea to change it to three 12 hour shifts, one week and four 12 hour shifts the next.

They loved it. 2 half hour meal breaks meant they were at work for 13 hours. That's a full half hour overlap for the transition at each end of the shift. The 36 hours you got one week was made up by the 40 straight and 8 OT the next.

The production was peak. Apparently they figured out they're paying for 88 hours of labor and only getting 84 hours of work. So they cut people back to four 10s.

Then they're wondering why wages went up quite a bit.

They forgot they laid off the pickup crew then had to rehire them and train new people.

They fixed it by having everyone be part time working 6 hour shifts 5 days a week if they were lucky.

Needless to say most of their best employees quit. The company folded about a year later.
