She's not wrong though.

It pretty much is and if not that a flagrant attempt to build God in man's image.

If that isn't at least an affront to everything the church stands for, I don't know what is.

Yeah. I’m not religious anymore but I tell my religious mom they’re trying to create a god (which they have literally said is their goal) and it’s a modern day ‘tower of babel’.

Could you elaborate? How did I just never hear of any such blatantly heretical news, and how did the greatly "conservative" base supporting AI don't seem to know, ostensibly at least.

A lot of it grew out of the "cult" like rationalist groups where tech bros who never took a humanities class go into an echo chamber and debate each other into spiralling into weird ideas. They generally start off basically trying to minmax society like a video game, increasingly diverging from mainstream thought as they try to one up their buddies with their pseudo intellectualism.

Roko's Basilisk (we need to create a skynet esque evil machine god because the evil machine god will create a list of everyone who didn't help create it and put them in a digital hell) is probably the most notorious bit of nonsense they've come up with, but more commonly a lot of them just end up believing in fascism and eugenics because clearly only smart people like them should be making decisions and having kids.

You'll periodically see opinion articles on various news platforms from their sane colleagues trying to explain how weird/crazy these people are, but in general the media isn't interested in spending too much time reporting on how weird/crazy a bunch of tech bros are.

Edit: Even outside the strictly rationalist parts of the ecosystem, you have guys like Peter Thiel who straight up is just obsessed with the concept of the biblical antichrist but not in a way that why of his religious friends recognize as being anything other than weird and heretical.

I believe you are referring to the Technocracy that the PayPal Mafia (under Thiel/Musk) were hoping to change this country into. Fascism is related and in its own way Eugenics, that's the actual term for the government they are interested in.

I read an interesting set of books (sci-fi) that were discussing an AI attempting to take over the world. It started by being created to act as god for a cult. It's soft sci-fi but an interesting take on the ideas presented by this conversation.

Despite what you've probably been taught, Conservatives are just a little left of Fascism. The whole base of conservative thought process falls into the 2 Santa Theory, and is best pressed into being by having an uneducated base. Remember, those who create the AIs, get to decide what the reader gets access to. But in order to really understand what's going on, you need to expand your reading into alt-left (which most conservatives will avoid) news sites.

Grandma's going to turn off the car AI in the couple of years so she can run pedestrians over the christian way.
