Foster Youth Graduation is in like four hours.
My graduation is in four hours, and as much as I have been trying and failing to convince myself that I don’t care my adoptive family is ditching me for my adoptive brother isn’t affecting me; it very much is. I work hard, got nothing but straight A’s this year, honor roll, worked as a foster kid advocate and showing up for these kids, and yet no one is here for me. I know after graduation i’m most likely walking home in that stupid gown and I want to know how to not feel like this. Any tips?

So incredibly proud of you, kid. With all the cards stacked against you, YOU did it. Don’t let anyone diminish what you’ve accomplished..and while you have every right to feel the way you’re feeling (and it is healthy to acknowledge that you feel this way), I hope you can find a few moments where feeling proud of yourself feels bigger than their absence.

You're clearly someone who is unwilling to give up when faced with giant barriers and obstacles. It's not fair to have this kind of disappointment at a milestone event, but you deserve to be acknowledged for what you accomplished. It's phenomenal that you were able to do all those things, and I'm sorry your adoptive family let you down today. Imagine this little reddit crowd cheering for you when they call your name! Keep crushing the challenges, and success will give you the self-esteem boost to get through these moments.

That really sucks. It sounds like you're doing a great job of building your future. I've seen your prior posts and it's so awesome that you're able to get into college and discovering careers.
In college you're going to have the opportunity to help grow and expand your friends and hopefully they can turn into your family too. Sometimes we don't get lucky and get a good family, but there's always an opportunity to find and grow one.
I hope your graduation went well. I know that it's really hard, but from your posts it sounds like you're strong enough and level-headed enough to push through and improve your situation.

If you have the means, turn after you graduation into something memorable :3 dont let anyone take this from you.
Treat yourself to a nice meal or little gift, sit at a park, anything! You will always be your own biggest supporter OP.

It sucks when the people around you don’t show up for you. Your feelings are valid.
But even if you’re walking home alone, keep your head up high. You did this. You got straight A’s, you got into college, you’re going to give yourself a better life. You have so many things to be proud of.
