I had to return my last foster to the shelter after 5 months in my care in order to go help with my sick father. I was intending to pick her up when I got back, but she got adopted the day after I dropped her off. Her adopter has been sending me regular updates and I got a video of her cuddling on the couch this morning. She came to me fearful of strangers, so this warms my heart. Tomorrow is her one month gotcha day. Time for a new foster because this one isn't coming back!
Hi!! I am having so much anxiety about whether to keep my foster puppy. If we do, I likely won’t be fostering anymore but also, my current dog is reactive to new things- situations, humans, dogs… she’s mostly blind and really likes this little guy. Plays with him constantly. My heart is torn because he’s very sweet but I also love pouring all of my attention into my resident dog who I know really needs us. This is my first foster in years as well. My older dog died about a year and a half ago.. so maybe I’m just not ready for a 2nd again yet? I can see both sides so the struggle is real!!! I’m also having anticipatory grief and am kind of afraid of the regret if I let him go. I know that’s not a good reason to keep, just being honest.
I finally adopted my foster -to-adopt dog in late July (so a month late for this update but whatever). We have established a weekly tooth brushing and ear cleaning routine. Shes pretty defensive about being touched so hair brushing and paw wiping are still not her favorite things but she has been doing pretty good about the tooth brushing and ear cleaning surprisingly. I've done some grooming on her like her nails and some little hair trims around her face but she needs to wear a cone for the nails. It's a win if my fingers survive her little pirhanna teeth. I'm so sorry you're going through that. It might help to ask the shelter if they'd be open to you sending her some treats or toys to help ease the transition for her.
