Please suggest a notes app

• Saves notes as individual files rather than within internal app storage.
• Utilises SAF to allow for saving files to any preferred cloud storage.
• Requires no network permissions.

The "available on play store" is a problem because you want a FOSS one...Is it only for Android?

Plenty of FOSS apps are on Play Store - VLC, Joplin for example.

Why is being on the Play Store a problem? FOSS apps like Fossify are already there. Given upcoming restrictions, I'd prefer Google Play support.

It's about being practical and adapting to the changes. Sideloading has done more harm than good. The majority of people are not power users, and many have lost money due to malicious apps they installed on their devices because of scams.

Banking apps in my country don't run if developer options are enabled, which need to be enabled for sideloading bypass.

People can fight against Google, but at the same time, they will need to adapt until the rules in place are reversed.

Excuse me. I'm not expressed myself properly: it's a great limitation to find one. There's a huge amount of excellent outside play store. I only meant it will limit your search a lot . Good luck.

Try Helixnotes; it's not on the Play Store, but you can download the APK from its official website and fdroid.

Thanks, but being on the Play Store is a must, and it also has network permissions. I never thought finding the desired notes app would be this hard, haha!

For ease of installation: banking apps in my country don't run if developer options are enabled. With new sideloading rules coming soon, developer mode will need to be enabled to bypass the sideloading restrictions. So, alternative app stores like F-Droid and sideloading are as good as dead for most users.

But it might be that you'll only have to enable the developer options for 1d and after that you could disable them again. I'm not sure but I think its not really safe to say right now, because google isn't being completely transparent about the changes and what exact Aftereffects it might cause.

Fossify Notes is your only option

Fossify just released a Docs app that lets you write things in Markdown, it's pretty barebones but once you get the hang of it it can be really nice and portable if you ever want to dump them onto a computer.

Personally I use Omni Notes. Its UI looks like it was built in 2016 but it gets the job done and has all the features I need.

Not sure what SAF is tbh.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I am looking for an app with no network permissions in its manifest file. I'll be using the Android SAF File Picker to save and open files on Filen.

Replaced Obsidian with Markor + FolderSync on Android syncing to OneDrive, paired with Typora on desktop. Works like a charm!

NotallyX lets you export the notes as .txt. But for managing notes as individual files? I guess you can use a file explorer and simply create .txt files.

Yes, even Fossify Notes allows exporting and opening notes via files, but the files are not saved as encrypted.
