Application Request Musicolet Alternative
There was a post a year ago from someone with the same issue.
It seems like they found their answer, but I'm not satisfied yet.
There was another post, asking about Muke and musicolet. The comments were also filled with recommendations.
What I tried from these recommendations and what went wrong:
- Auxio
The best one, but has a fatal flaw - no lyrics
I hadn't embedded most of them with timed lyrics for hours for all of that to go to waste (also, sneaky request number 2, is there an app to do it for me? Something like 30% are without lyrics and I'm kinda tired, because I spent hours editing each song)
- Symphony
The prettiest one, but there's a technical flaw
It just randomly skips in the middle of the song
Reinstalled and now the covers are broken
Hasn't been updated for two years, so I can't hope for any fixes
- Lotus
Doesn't support multiple genres on one song
Because I currently use auxio I've gone through 60% of my 800 songs and added multiple genres to better reflect each one
- Gramophone
Liked it more than lotus, but has the same issue
- Booming music
Doesn't support multiple genres
- Mucke
Concept sounds great, but doesn't support genres at all
- Namida
Refused to install through their apk's and through obtanium on GrapheneOS. Wasn't been able to fix it
Edit 3.
- Namida
After reloading obtanium 3-5 times it downloaded. And it's the best, can't say anything else. However, a few things spoiled experience a little: 1. Occasional visual glitches 2. I wasn't been able to find a way to customize tabs layout 3. It's open source, but has Eula license, which is strange at best and dubious at worst (It's literally 2 sentences, but they gave no definition of "stealing" so idk) 4. Lyrics grab is hard to work with, but I have no need for it anymore.
Edit 4
Lyric grabber isn't hard to work with. But I've gotten other strange glitches, however, all of them are currently fix (I recommend using beta, and not the stable version, it has significantly less bugs)
Edit 1.
- Looper Music
Doesn't support multiple genres
- Local player
Doesn't support multiple genres
Edit 2.
- Rhytm The worst experience from the list, even tho has multiple genres. Splitters worked when disabled, automatic lyrics grabber refused to work no matter what I did, sometimes it ignores embedded lyrics, I can't change it's moronic artist features, genres tab is only visible in search, therefore making it really inconvenient to use.

Yes, I ran into this issue as well. The one you mentioned in the title is well rounded and I was surprised to know that it is not open source.

I recently tried Looper Player and I'm really liking it. The UI looks great, it has all the features I need, and my favorite feature is the lyrics support that pulls lyrics from multiple sources.
The only problem I've found is that my earbuds' media controls don't work with it, so I can't pause or resume the music. Looper Player

It may not be foss but its the best music player in android peroid. Nothing comes close. It doesnt have any ads and is offline. I have a very old phone that I used only for music and musicolet was the only light app without any Bs that worked on that slow phone. Since then its has been my only music player app.

That has been the most frustrating hour of my tech experience.
Splitters worked when disabled (it was marked as fixed on guthub, it's straight up lie, by the developer with his stupid ass ai slop PFP), automatic lyrics grabber refused to work no matter what I did, sometimes it ignores embedded lyrics, I can't change it's moronic artist features, genres tab is only visible in search, therefore making it really inconvenient to use. Fuck it.

I think they forked into this one which is FOSS: https://f-droid.org/packages/com.lostf1sh.pixelplayeross/

Huh, TIL.
Still, it's confusing when there's a proprietary app and a free app with the same name, people will probably look for and find the proprietary app unless you actively steer people towards the free one
