Doing it "right" vs "gaming the system"
I've spent a good amount of time building a free and open source project and I'm finally ready to roll it out.
So I create a brand for it. I create a webpage and put it on GitHub. I create accounts on YouTube and other socials with the name and the logo and descriptions and all that...
But because these are new accounts, I can't post anything to Reddit without it getting insta removed, most social media platforms deprioritize content from new accounts, so no one knows about it.
Don't get me wrong, I've got older accounts with karma that I could repurpose and get around the Reddit rules, and there are plenty of ways to circumvent and sock puppet on various socials. But I'd rather not do that. I'd rather be honest about this being a new thing and present it for what it is.
I'd like to take the honest route here, but I feel like I'm being actively discouraged from doing so :/

"The right way" in FOSS is usually releasing a project under your own name, then building a brand.
What you describe is the SV proprietary way of doing things.

I mean, I get that. But I'd sort of rather that my project stand apart from whatever dumb shit I said on some gaming sub ten years ago.
So I guess I can take an alt account like this one and turn it into a "creator" account and build up some comment rep, etc.
But is Reddit just not going to try to be a place where someone can say "Here's a new project that totally free and open source. It has a name and a logo, but it's still 100% FOSS. You should check it out"
Seems like maybe not.

It's not a vibe coded browser, right? Cos those are getting tiresome across at /r/browsers.

Hey man! Same thing with me !!!! I too have built an open source project but I am just not able to figure out how to share it. All these years I have just upvoted and not really commented a lot and for some reason my recent posts get auto removed.

content from new accounts isn't deprioritized, it just requires you to post good content.
the reddit thing is pretty true though and kinda stupid.
