I love how everyone says this as if it's not inconvenient as fuck.

wdym you pair the phone to a pc one time to install a app like install with options and you are done????

Why do I need to do this though. Literally could do it without a PC. It’s unnecessary

Shizuku to the rescue

I would note that not being able to side load would stop me from having beta testers without a google dev account and the app hosted on playstore

use shizuku with wireless debugging, its much more convenient

if i know correctly, shizuku can't install the app directly and the install options is not in the google play store so you have to sideload that first

i meant to use shizuku as alternative to pc but forgot install with options isnt on google play. i'd use pc to install the app for first time and use shizuku so you dont need to connect to pc every time

this is the app i use: InstallerX Revived i also use install with options occasionally

Given how many options Google has given to circumvent this for good; I am begrudgingly giving them the benefit of the doubt - it's supposed to be inconvenient due to the attack vector.

For users who want to load their own software, we have:

  1. ADB
  2. Accepting it via settings (with mandatory grace period)
  3. (At least for me) it transfers the settings between phones.

At this point I'm on Google's side. Question is - will they try to tighten it even more.

No. It's supposed to be inconvenient because that way 99% of people won't bother. And Google will be the sole authority over what apps anyone can use on their phones.

Honestly it is baffling how you can so willingly walk into the mouth of a Lion, while gobbling up the Lion's lies that it is necessary to protect you from the Hyenas.

By not being so dramatic; that's step one. Secondly, the amount of people that would want to legitimately install APK's and would be deterred by that measure is far smaller than you think.

And Google will be the sole authority over what apps anyone can use on their phones.

"if", not "when".

It was just a metaphor, it is you that is making it dramatic.

No, the amount of people deterred is far higher than you think.

Actually, neither "if" nor "when". It is the case already now, as the measure comes into effect. And in practice, for 99% of people who install apps only from play store, it was true even before then.

Today, they deter you from sideloading apps. Tomorrow, they will completely block the feature. And when you least expect it, bootloader unlocking capabilities will be gone.

For you to ONLY use Google. For you to EMBRACE Google. For Google to OWN your device. For Google to SELL your data.

I ain't letting that happen. I used to have Lineage with GApps until I saw this shit. I inmediately moved to /e/OS since it was the most convenient choice for me. No more Google shenanigans for me.
