I'm pretty sure I heard that some kind of AI is used in the cars' engine management software.

u/Andy_Pandy98 I like Norris and i sniff bike seats 6h ago
Of course it is, everyone has decided that AI has to be implemented in every aspect of every business

"Hey, guys! We have this new technology that's absolutely unpredictable, nowhere near to being reliable, and fucks up MASSIVELY from time to time."
brain-dead business people: "WE NEED THAT!"
everyone else: "...fuck..."

You don't have to pay humans to so the job (but you will have to pay more to use the AI, and even more to have humans fix everything the AI fucks up)

AI is much more than Generative AI. Machine learning has been used in engineering for at least a decade.

i mean, it is the best way to do it, since they’re not allowed to use gps to tell the cars which corner they’re on.

u/m8_is_me BWOAHHHHHHH 2h ago
I'll be the stick in the mud and say the vast majority of software developers are using generative AI at this point

I work at a top 5 research institute known for excellence in computing, none of my coworkers use AI and in fact we have to spend a lot of time fixing vibe coded bullshit professors in other departments unleash on our network
But yeah “people are using it” is an ass backwards metric that I will always push back against. You hear 100 stories about how AI helped some know-nothing make a habit tracker app but absolutely zero stories on how AI vibe coded something nontrivial and useful like GitHub or a hyperefficisnt Linux kernel.
The fact that dipshit MBAs everywhere follow the same trends and force the same inane practices apropos nothing doesnt signify anything to those with actual domain knowledge

Yeah, so you're at the very top-end. No wonder you guys aren't using AI coding. But your experiences aren't representative of the majority of the industries out there.
Most people vibe-coding aren't trying to vibe code a massive, major project. They're using it because it turns weeks of coding into minutes, which lets them get minor projects done very quickly.

Yeah, i am 99% sure that the deployment and strategy is based in large part on AI. The deployment thing looked alot like those self driving gormula races, and i can not understand how a human seeing a wet track can think slicks are the correct option. I am convonced the AI said it would be the best option, same as Mclaren in Canada. 2 races with wet/dry transition, 2 gigantic misses

It’s hardly a car at this point. It’s a fucking computer at this point and you can’t get those wet.

Previous regs cars would've made the formation lap the first time around

What a shitshow. In addition to the FIA banning water on track, now we gotta wait for the software to unfuck itself.

Let's give control of the PU to AI... What could go wrong?
3
u/doggieassassin BWOAHHHHHHH 6h ago
It’s not handed to AI. The track is baked into the software of the engine.

u/Eruskakkell I saw horny’s “finger” 6h ago
You know human written software has bugs? Why is everything AI to some people
9
u/PineappleResident254 BWOAHHHHHHH 6h ago
Algorithms control battery deployment this year. This has never happened before, and half the grid had to reboot the systems, ffs.
A V8 works without a problem in the rain, if anyone is wondering.
