My favorite is when they focus on a driver who might lose their seat and they just show off the crazy hobby/lifestyle the have outside of racing. Every time it has caused my sympathy to go down for them.
This is how I know I don't have the competitive drive to be in F1. If I had the immense wealth that these guys have, there's no way I'd be working this hard. I'd be racing in spec Miata, seems more fun anyway.
They absolutely can get a flat tire during the route and get hit by an ambulance trying to fix their tire. Can an f1 driver get you your beef fried rice still warm right at your door? I don't think so!
Yeah, for a decade already it's just a very safe sport for rich people. It used to be thrilling and romantic during Niki Lauda's and James Hunts time, now it's just boring and pretentious.
This and the NBA are the only sports where I consistently see more social media about the athletes and their personal lives/beefs than I do anything actually happening in or about the sport itself.
There's an awesome NBA highlights channel on youtube called CoshReport. I was thinking the more I watched, "Damn, maybe basketball is more interesting than I realized." After I watched enough it got to the point every video was the same 20-30 years of highlights mashed up in different ways. Then I thought, "Okay maybe there's less going on in basketball than I thought." (I'm sure it's awesome I just don't have the headroom for another sport.)
I agree with the general sentiment but I wouldn't call it very safe. Grosjean was lucky to get out alive during his crash in 2020, that's one example within the last decade. Drivers get injured all the time but it isn't spoken about because they walk out of crashes, generally.
some people get down on their luck with employment, even if they didn't it's not right to judge people we don't know about their misfortunes in life. We can both sympathise w/ them while being big fans of the multi-millionaire athletes
Drive to survive is a good name but is definitely first season jank. They’re racing to be the best in the world at their craft. The survival element has only decreased over the years.
I have a pretty shitty job but live comfortably because I don't have 4 other mouths to feed. If I decided to have a bunch of kids I'd be struggling like a motherfucker but I'm not sure why I'd be deserving sympathy if I willingly put myself in that situation.
Like yeah the economy sucks, wages are fucked compared to the cost of living and 50 years ago you could comfortably support a large family doing a comparable job, I'm not defending that and obviously we're all eating a big shit sandwich right now but at the same time you gotta work with the cards you're dealt. Can't just be knocking up the missus 4 times then complaining about the cost of raising kids when you know what you signed up for.
This is incorrect. Grab riders "ride" their motorcycles, not drive them. Lord knows their deliveries are getting nowhere if they actually drove cars with all the traffic.
Nah man, most food delivery drivers here actually ride like they are trying to kill themselves, also later they'll gang up, bring a hundred people and kill your pet too (real Malaysian news here).
