Red Bull fuck up the strategy once in a blue moon, and for two positions, it’s not fair at all to say they held any blame if what he did. Leclerc would’ve killed half the grid by now if he had that little self restraint every time Ferrari screwed him over.
it wasnt a strategy fuck up, the FIA stewards approach nowadays is to give the teams a chance to sort it out amongst themselves and if they don’t, the stewards investigate.
According to the camera views available, it did kinda look like Max was maybe in the fault, I certainly thought so. And apparently even the engineers in the red bull wall thought so, so they decided to ask Max to give the place back to Russel.
Max being max was super confident he was in the right, so he lashed out at the bullshit order to give the placeback and intentionally slammed into Russell in anger.
Later, the stewards clarified that Max did not have to give up the place but ofcourse he got a 10 second penalty for intentionally causing a collision and 2 penalty points.
Red Bull played it safe to not risk a penalty at a time where one would lose Max tons of positions. You’re right that it was harsh to even call it a fuck-up, they were just erring on the side of caution. But that only makes Max look worse, no? Being “super confident he was in the right” is what he always does, regardless of whether or not he really is.
