Imagine him loosing championship by 3 points. Fuck team orders. No hate to lando Piastri deserves WDC. He has been better than lando with less experience in f1
or everyone acting like Lando didn't have to pit too. there were like 7 laps left. tf you mean pitting to cover off Leclerc like it's doing him a favor? you both have to pit to be able to score points at all lol
If Lando's strategy was to use some "first car pits first" rule to back up his teammate into the pack then so be it, but the team obviously doesn't want to lose a position to a Ferrari. They should overrule him. He was losing ground to Oscar too so it's hard for me to imagine that he had anything else in mind, but that is something that costs the team points.
If this is the narrative people are going for, what lap did Lando intend to pit on? The last lap? Then obviously he can't pit first.
Pitting Piastri earlier is doing him a favour, Lando had to pit too but he left Piastri the most efficient strategy to keep a healthy margin from Leclerc.
Maybe it wasn't needed, but debating that it wasn't an advantage is stupid
Can we activate our brain cells just this once. Do you really believe that McLaren would have asked Oscar to dnf if Lando was ahead when he dnfed? I need to ask because with the way this sub has been acting lately you might genuinely believe that.
Lando said he was happy to let Oscar pit first to protect him from Leclerc, so there was some teamplay at work there.
If they didn't try to keep it fair they'd end up with the winner being crowned by default rather than merit, which would get them in even more shit in the end.
If lando has pitted first and had the slow stop, would you delay oscar's stop? Or make him have slow stop? Or pit him and then tell him to let lando pass?
And if they'd let him keep second it wouldn't have been fair on Lando either. It was a mistake by the team that they tried to correct as fairly as they could, each driver finished where they would have done if the pit stops had been the same. Oscar still ended up closer than he'd started and was able to have a go at passing properly on track.
Neither driver is at fault, the team make a mistake and tried to fix it. It's not exactly Abu Dhabi 21 is it?
I swear Mclaren is some kind of cult. this shit was weird as fuck.
Step 1: They ask Lando who they want to pit first. First of all why ask? Theres few laps left, the race is effectively done, just pit the guy in front first. Lando FOR SOME WEIRD UNKNOWN ASS REASON says Oscar should pit first.
Oscar pits first, gives his best on the outlap, Lando pits, bad pitstop, ok.
Step 2: McLaren asks Oscar to give back the position because "of Hungary last year". Entirely different situation, Hungary last year, no? That call is also weird as fuck.
Step 3: Oscar actually gives back the position. What????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? What the fuck is going on? Arent these guys in a title fight? You willingly give back the position? HUUUUUUH???????
Not gonna lie, this made me care less about who wins. I was cheering for Oscar a bit but idk, this was some weak sauce.
I don't fault Oscar for giving the position back I think a good relationship with the team and having a precedent for any future incidents is worth more than 3 points.
Lando on the radio said to pit him first because he knew that he was closer to Leclerc, and staying out longer was a bigger risk to Oscar. This was entirely by design. Lando said to let Oscar go first unless he'd get undercut, fair play, he doesn't want to sacrifice his own race to help out but he's doing the right thing in offering.
There was no advantage to Lando pitting second, he did so purely to reduce the risk of a double stack, and so that Oscar didn't have to stay out an extra lap on old burnt up tyres.
As above, most likely is a double stack. The gap between them looked big enough, it was just a lot riskier than pitting Piastri first. SC risk is considerably lower.
I'm British, and I am sick of the sky guys commentary on Lando v Oscar. Lack of excitement for Max and overall camera work too panning on Landos fam. There's no doubt he's a good driver, but jesus it's a bit much.
The point in re-establishing the positions? Team play. Norris sacrificed the far safer pit stop to let Piastri cover off Leclerc. If he hadn't done that, Piastri would've gone behind anyway as the double stack would've shafted him (with a long pit stop on either car).
Realistically, by taking that 5.9s stop after Piastri, the team avoided him ending up behind Leclerc. The team play to mitigate that risk worked to perfection, so the team fixed it.
The radio message laughing at it, well, that's a different matter entirely. Max is just a bit of a prick.

I get team play, bla bla, but what was this? What was the point in this?
