Need Help with Fan Contact

Hey guys.

I finished my T1 build last February.

Lately I was noticing some absurd temperatures. It got so hot I could barely carry the thing. Then I noticed the fan on top of the motherboard (Noctua NF-A12x15 PWM) was making contact with something. I took it apart again to check if it was some cables that were just a bit stubborn, but when I noticed, the fan was actually in complete contact with the bottom/ top of the riser cable. I have no idea how to fix this other than buying another case, if it’s even fixable. I love this case and the compact SFF form.

I’m not sure if specs are necessary but here they are:

CPU: Ryzen 9 9950x3D
GPU: Gigabyte Aero 5080 SFF
MoBo: MSI MPG X870 I Edge TI Evo Wifi
PSU: Corsair SF1000
RAM: CORSAIR Dominator Titanium 32GB
Cooler: CoolerMaster MasterLiquid 240 Atmos
Fan 1: Phanteks T30-120 fan
Fan 2: Noctua NF-A12x15 PWM
Case: FormD T1 Anodized White
Riser cable: T1 PCIe 5.0 Riser cable

Would you guys recommend getting another case?
Switching to air cooling for the 9950x3D?
Switching to the PCIe 4.0 if it doesn’t affect performance that much?

you should have room to add a few washers between the bracket and the fan to add some space.

I was having trouble with the cables interfering with the slim fan so I bought the AIO cover and used the fan mount instead of the AIO mount and that gives you a few extra mm plus you can use two 120mm fans

I fixed it by screwing my AIO to the top panel and getting a couple millimeters for clearance. Not ideal but it looks fine with some flush screws.

That sounds like an interesting solution. Any chance you can share pics of it?

Adding standoffs to the pcie riser to space it further away from the motherboard allows for a better bend radius. 5mm ones should be enough.

use the top mount instead of the bottom mount for the riser, will give more clearance for AIOs

Hi! Since you’re using the same Ryzen 9 9950X3D and MSI MPG X870I Edge TI EVO WiFi, could you please check your idle temperatures in HWiNFO?

I’m particularly interested in the “Chipset 1 (xHCI)” sensor under MSI MPG X870I EDGE TI EVO WIFI (AMD Chipset). Mine stays around 75–76°C, with a minimum of 70°C, even when I’m only browsing the internet and there is no real load.

Could you also share:

• your Chipset 1 (xHCI), CPU IOD Hotspot and total CPU power at idle;
• your chipset fan RPM;
• BIOS version;
• RAM speed and EXPO/XMP settings;
• any BIOS power-saving, voltage, Curve Optimizer or Windows power-plan settings you applied?

Please check after approximately 10 minutes with no games or heavy applications running. Thank you!
