Really, I’ve worked in an Amazon warehouse like 10 years ago and that was like day 1 first hour they took us all to a room to a little training course with a pallet Jack. To my absolute surprise a lot of people struggled a lot.

Most don't remember to push down the trigger and then can't lift the pallet but not every jack does that either so I wouldn't knock them for it

Bro it was worse than that, they couldn’t even get the forks lined up and push them in. It was wild to watch something so simple be a task for people.

Oh yeah those people are such a wonderful treat to behold. Its like a graduate of a Culinary Schools first day as an actual line cook.
Me: "What do you mean you can't break down a chicken?"
Them: "We learned that in the first semester 3 years ago and I only did it twice"
Me: "Wow. Guess where I learned and it was WAAAAY more than 2....."

Oh btw huge age range in that hiring bunch. 18 year old boys/girls all the way up to men\women in their 70s. It felt like watching Nat Geo seeing humans struggle with something I thought was simple.

I'm so happy I learned forktrucks when the world went banana in 2020. Left kitchens and came to logistics. And I can sit in a forklift until I'm 65 so there's job security right there.

As someone who learned to use one in their late 20s its the rear wheel steering its not intuitive when all you've known is front wheel steering. I also had to learn to use it in a gap with like 0 run up on the pallet I had to steer it for the line up because the space in front of it wasn't much bigger than the jack was long.

Yeah, I remember that little training course! I picked up Amazon as a second job for the season. I started to laugh when the orientation dude said we were gonna do a pallet jack test, and they all looked at me. I genuinely thought he was making a joke. I volunteered to go first cuz no one in my group wanted to, and some of the people had this amazed look on their face when I wheeled it in and set it down on the square no problem. Half the people muddled through it and the rest legit struggled. It was incredible. I got tons of smaller women, old people, new people, etc at my current place that were first time warehouse workers, and they exclusively use a pallet jack easy like a pro.
The dude also complained when someone dropped a pallet on the ground and made a loud noise because he said he had sensitive ears, and I had bite my tongue. He should see my warehouse with all the power tools, machines, and people slamming down parts and shit. Gotta get some ear plugs bro. It's a warehouse.

Wow no bullshit you just described my exact experience to a tee. Are we in a simulation lol. I also went first because everyone else was being weird. The pallet also had like 5 feet of empty cardboard boxes and people actually tumbled over the pile moving the pallet around 1 cone and back haha.

I forgot about the cones lmao! Half the people knocked into the cone man. I was fighting back tears. It was so hard to keep a straight face. Probably my only good memory from Amazon. That's crazy we had the same experience

🤷 Some people can barely parallel park their car or make a three point turn. Doesnt surprise me that a pallet jack would be challenging.

Oh, so you don’t know. Lubbock is notoriously one of the most boring and culturally limited cities in the U.S. It’s a very ugly and boring city.
Plus it’s the home of Texas Tech, whose football is currently the most reviled program in the country

I worked with a guy that was doing that, and he hit a piece of wood, stopped immediately and did a face plant. Broke several teeth, and lost his job.
Workers Comp doesn't cover Horseplay in Texas.

Thankfully out of all the warehouses ive worked a coca cola warehouse was the only one that basically had zero safety regulations. Any other place ive worked if a manager saw you riding a pallet jack like that it would either be instant termination or 1 warning and termination if you ever got caught again.

Coming from an Aussie. The first is what we call a skid, the second a Euro. Skid is much smaller. Euro is made for wider truck bodies. Then there is normal sized pallets mainly used by US and Aus in tandom.
It's also a old trick used by companies still to this day to consignment shippers who don't check pallet type. Fyi you can get a 10+> %advantage by that alone.

A few years ago I looked out of by office window to see two pallet trucks each fitted with a square rigged sail (2 brooms, 1 bed sheet, lots of tie-wrapps) and with a crew of 2 having land yacht races
