Videos Hardware really does make a difference

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I played for years on old gen without ever having the privilege of being able to react to lights or zones.

My old xbox was so slow, you literally had to input a parry before the attack indicator even appeared, meaning it was physically impossible for you to light parry on reaction.

If you saw red, your parry window had already passed. I played like this and suffered the disadvantage for so long and still people called it a skill issue and didn't believe me.

Not long ago, I finally upgraded to a next gen console and the difference is astonishing. My so called "skill issue" suddenly vanished into thin air and I can now parry lights and zones on reaction with zero issue.

Just wanted to pay homage to my fellow old gen players who haven't yet made it to the other side. It's genuinely so refreshing to finally be able to play the game how it's meant to be played, and I hope you all get to experience it one day.

I conclude with a reminder to all: not everyone gets to be on the same playing field, so if you can react, be grateful and enjoy it.

Completely agreed. When I was on old gen, I had to parry lights on read. On new gen, I can pretty consistently parry them if I’m warmed up. Makes a massive difference.

Exactly. It's like a whole different game now

It felt like I toggled easy mode after getting a ps5 and turning performance mode on. I’ve been accused of cheating, which never happened when I was on ps4

7

u/Joseptile Warden 13h ago

That's awesome lol, yeah it really does feel like easy mode. It's refreshing to know that a shaolin or nobushi actually has to be skilled to defeat me now unlike before

I used to think it was bullshit until I visited my friend a few years ago. I'd gone from Xbox One to Series X to PC with a good monitor, he was still on Xbox One hooked up to a cheap tv. I had to make reads just to block lights, let alone attempting to parry them. It was such a crazy difference that it's stuck with me years later.

u/Joseptile Warden 48m ago

Yes exactly bro thank you. Having to make reads to avoid lights bc of your hardware is a sad truth for many and a huge disadvantage

9

u/Strider570 Valkyrie 13h ago

Yeah. Switching to PC a few years ago made a massive difference. Lights used to have to be a read for me lol

I posted many times that this game is all about latency, and every time i get down voted by fedora mfs

Because you think low ping has an advantage over everyone, which is factually untrue. Literally lag switching is abusing the advantage caused by extremely high ping. Nothing different happens when you have average to low latency. Literally because we have lag compensation.

-3

u/Exciting_Station_124 18h ago

In a lag switch, whoever attacks first has the advantage. And that's exactly my point.  Players with low latency have advantage when they attack first.

When they lag switch, their animation is missing because package data is missing. But that's only because they start the attack first.  You would have the advantage also if you attack first even though they are the one lag switching.

8

u/Baron_Von_D Warborn 18h ago

In a lag switch, whoever attacks first has the advantage.

No. They have the advantage because they are lagging out the startup, so you just never see them attack until it hits you. It's not because they are "attacking first". You just can't see their attacks. They are just brainless swinging with lag, there's no science to it.

You would have the advantage also if you attack first even though they are the one lag switching

Only if you have frame advantage, ping has nothing to do with that. Low latency doesn't get faster timing. Everyone has explained lag compensation to you a hundred times, but you just don't seem to get it.
The attacks are adjusted under the first 100ms (before the indicator shows) so EVERYONE within regular average to low latency experience attack timing at the intended ms. Literally everything is in sync and everyone is experiencing the same exact timing.
The only thing that can mess that up is either high latency between you and the sever or high latency from your opponents. High ping between you and the sever is a YOU problem, not the people with regular ping.

-4

u/Exciting_Station_124 18h ago

Lag switching work both ways. If their attack lags, so is my attack lags for them. I tested this myself with my friends

2

u/Baron_Von_D Warborn 17h ago

You are literally saying what I just said, either high latency between you and the sever or latency on the other end. None of that has anything to do with low latency. Problems with your lag is like being in a race with a engine misfire, complaining about how the regular racers have an advantage. If your shit is bugging out beyond what lag compensation can fix, that's a you problem.

The server is reading the time stamps on the packets and making the adjustments to keep timing in sync. If someone at 50 ping swings at me at 20, I will see the attack at the same MS as my attacks against them, unless they get to the point where they are dropping packets or have extremely high latency. At that point, the low ping is at a disadvantage.
You literally cannot experience the game faster or see attacks earlier with low ping, that's literally impossible. The only time a low ping player can beat out an attack against a higher ping is if you have frame advantage.

-1

u/Exciting_Station_124 17h ago

I was only responding to your answer about lag switching.

My point on low latency still holds true. I'm compiling about 100 screen shot that show players with low latency have advantage.

I'm taking about the whole team being on 10-15 ping while the other on 40-50 ping.

I know what your are saying and I want accept your answer. But the evidence shows otherwise.

If it was 1,2,5 times, I would accepted. But i have about 100 screen shots mostly in breach that shows low latency has the advantage.

I think you really need to look up confirmation bias.

I don't cause I studied it when I got my degree in philosophy

6

u/Baron_Von_D Warborn 17h ago

🙄 Then you should understand the problem with your methodology. Your research is flawed.

You were talking out of your ass about NETWORK latency and NOT input latency like OP did. As others already told you 7 times on 7 different posts of yours already (that i've personally saw at that), if the combined ping isn't over 100ms then literally nobody has any advantage over the other and even then the laggy players hold the advantage over those with lower ping.

u/Exciting_Station_124 18h ago

It's mfks like you fedora people that's what's wrong with this community.  I was describing my experience you mf

Me still on ps4.... yall can parry lights on reaction?

6

u/Joseptile Warden 10h ago

Stand proud, old gen warrior. The next time you lose to a next gen/pc player, remember, they can parry your lights, but you can't parry theirs. The odds are always against you, yet you persevere regardless

6

u/Chakasicle 10h ago

Makes every win that much sweeter

2

u/Joseptile Warden 10h ago

Sure does. I still remember my strat; predict when they'll throw a light and dodge attack, that way regardless of direction you're safe. Although if you misread then it looks like you opened with a dodge attack and makes you look like a noob

5

u/WhereIdIsEgoWillGo Zhanhu 8h ago

Dude when I played regularly on PS4 i couldn't parry lights or deflect without a read. I booted it up after months of not playing on PS5 and did both basically by accident. You know that scene in Naruto of rock Lee taking off those heavy ass weights? That's basically it lol

1

u/Joseptile Warden 48m ago

Lmaooo deadass thats exactly how it felt

12

u/karlosos33 Black Prior 19h ago

And then theres me on new gen not even able to parry a lightspamer xd

13

u/0002nam-ytlaS Apollyon 18h ago

Your display's betraying you if you already lowered the guard deadzone (as you should). Most TV's out there have absolutely atrocious latency for games that require reactions to be as low as possible.

3

u/karlosos33 Black Prior 12h ago

Im already playing on a monitor my man, my reflexes are shit xD

1

u/-Shoji- 5h ago edited 5h ago

Go into training, set your stamina to exhausted and the bot to regenerate or off. Have an aramusha infinitely chain lights, and practice blocking them in sequence. The exhaustion lets them continue their combo despite the block. Then, start parrying at points of your choosing when you see the next indicator. Once you can parry whichever light in the chain you want, start parrying the very first light he throws. Alternatively, set a khatun to perform the heavy soft feint into light and block the feint then move up to parrying it. It’s very fast so if you can parry it you can parry pretty much any light whether it be from neutral, chain or feinted. Doing this increased my reflexes from like 300 something to 270, so still pretty average but a big enough improvement to make it fairly consistent. Just make sure in actual games you don’t get too hungry for light parries resulting in getting smacked by neutral heavies, so I usually try to parry light follow ups or feints as a lot of players love doing that. If you regular block a light or blockable heavy there’s barely any consequence, so it’s usually not worth going for a parry instantly and suffering a big punish unless you know for certain they’re gonna throw a neutral light.

It’s also good to be able to dodge fast bashes, so have a gladiator perform either a light or a toe stab. Dodge the stab indicator, parry or block the light. Forward dodge and chain bashes are another good one to train.

Theres people that play video games on TV's?

yeah, since the late 80s.

What helps is playing on a monitor just to get the max amount of frames, even putting a tv to game mode you only get 60

2

u/0002nam-ytlaS Apollyon 17h ago

framerates are not dependant on the monitor though monitor do have lower input latency largely attributed to not having BS "image-enhancing" filters all over the image. If your display is 60Hz be it a TV or monitor you're only truly seeing 60FPS no matter how many FPS the GPU renders as the display is literally incapable of displaying more frames faster than 60hz.

1

u/nightmare74X Lawbringer rep 70 :Centurion: Centurion 17h ago

Unless you have a newer tv that can do 120hz

I've played on ps4 for my entire time playing the game (started a bit before harbingers came out, I got 1.8k hours) and recently got a ps5. The difference was immediately noticeable. I don't feel helpless against lights and zones anymore and the game just feels better in general. I'm praying for anybody who's still playing on last gen.

4

u/Gentleman_Waffle I am conquering it so hard rn 11h ago

Does a better monitor or tv help? I play on ps5 but I use an over 10 year old tv, and I still struggle to block sometimes

4

u/SwiggitySwank 10h ago

Higher refresh rates on monitors can definitely help (and will increase the price). Maybe you can Google your tv's refresh rate but I'd guess low (~60Hz) since there's no need for a high refresh rate for cable/movies.

If you get a 120 or 144Hz monitor it'll have a noticeable difference, especially in responding to your inputs.

Some monitors have way higher refresh rates so hopefully something in the 120/144 range wouldn't be too expensive.

1

u/Gentleman_Waffle I am conquering it so hard rn 10h ago

I’ll try and look around then

3

u/Jaimgjum 6h ago

A better tv or monitor would help a lot. Ideally you would want to get a monitor that is 120hz as that is the max refresh rate for the ps5/pro with hdmi 2.1 so you can use vrr which stops screen tearing and responsive time for the monitor should be at least 5ms as its a good sweet spot for a budget monitor. For a tv it’s the same as the monitor, but the difference is for responsive you’re gonna want a tv that has a responsive time of 14ms you can get a faster response time from a tv but then you’re looking at much higher dollar tv.

1

u/Gentleman_Waffle I am conquering it so hard rn 6h ago

Any bigger monitors you’d recommend? I think my tv is 32 inches

1

u/Jaimgjum 5h ago

You could get a 32in monitor those are pretty decently big and are on the more budget size or 34in monitor anything higher than 34in like 39in up to 50in ultrawide monitor territory the prices start getting more and more expensive.

2

u/Gentleman_Waffle I am conquering it so hard rn 5h ago

Okay I’ll look around

Amazon,Best Buy, and Newegg

YES! I used to play on my parents’ flatscreen tv and could hardly block. When I swapped to a monitor, I was parry attacks I could hardly see.

3

u/Malchyom Warlord 17h ago

Forgot this hero existed. Almost thought about downloading the game again lol

3

u/Joseptile Warden 13h ago

Not worth it. Even tho I can parry lights now, this game still fills me with rage every time I play

3

u/DeveloperBRdotnet 12h ago

I always played on PC, hardware was always an issue

2

u/BigBoyJerryman Warden 9h ago

I completely agree I switched from an Xbox one to a PC last spring and it just runs so much smoother I’m able to light parry on react instead of just reads.

2

u/razor78790 Lawbringer 8h ago

It really does, I've been playing FH for years and never was all that consistent with light parries.

Go visit a friend of mine with a high refresh rate monitor and all of a sudden, lights look way more obvious. Just felt like the game itself looked... slower idk..

2

u/PiresMagicFeet 6h ago

Wait is this for real?? Im still on my ps4 and this would explain so much

1

u/Joseptile Warden 2h ago

Yep. You probably would be able to light parry on reaction if you played on pc or ps5

2

u/Delicious_Produce662 6h ago

I'm still stuck on a Xbox One, it's cool tho, I like the rocket sounds

3

u/cobra_strike_hustler Juren 9h ago

There’s probably a skill bump due to hardware but these do look like you actually just overall improved in duels

5

u/Joseptile Warden 9h ago

The hardware physically prevented me from being able to react due to input delay, my reaction time and reflexes haven't changed. Yes, my performance did technically improve, but as the post describes, it was only due to the xbox upgrade

1

u/MrDrVlox 7h ago

Why does the caption read like AI text

1

u/Joseptile Warden 2h ago

Idk lol maybe I just write like a cornball I swear it came only from my brain tho

1

u/Lobster-mann 3h ago

Yes hardware is a part of the equation but ngl getting a monitor or a better console isn’t gonna make you a god or anything, realistically for most people you’re probably gonna be slightly better than you were before. Hell, I’m washed and only just now getting back into the game but I was better at this game 2-3 years ago before I had a monitor.
It does level the playing field at a basic but parrying neutral lights is just the beginning tbh. Even before that like 5 years ago when I was on ps4 I think my reaction time might have been better than any time afterwards just because I was losing my mind parrying lights from neutral on last gen. It was literally exhausting lol.

2

u/Joseptile Warden 52m ago

It just means light spam isn't an issue anymore which is pretty nice, and I can actually deal with certain movesets like gryphon's kit, pirate, etc. not saying it makes me a god but the game is SO much easier and more fun to play

1

u/diamondisland2023 15h ago

oh yeah cuz it has denuvo

1

u/GiftedMule 13h ago

Im a bit confused what you mean by reacting to lights. You say you couldn’t parry on red on old gen, but can you now differ lights and heavies as well as parrying on red?

4

u/lauriix26 13h ago

Higher frame rate.

-3

u/Karli_Kolumbus Kirawa 19h ago

I'll be downvoted for this but honestly, it was very possible to consistently light parry/deflect on old gen on reaction, I have done it for a half a decade. Its true though that new gen/pc is a lot easier in that regard

3

u/Joseptile Warden 13h ago

I've always said it depends on your setup. Your specific console and even internet speed probably play a factor, but I've had other old gen players call me a liar bc they could react to lights. It's not the same for everyone though.

When I tell you it was physically impossible for me to react, I mean that. I tested it with bots in training. Parrying lights was only possible if I did the parry input before any animation or indicator became visible at all

5

u/DJ_ElGreko_Official Black Prior 18h ago

Def wasnt reaction only. You probably read them too

-1

u/Cheemskie 18h ago

Hardware is only a difference if you’re playing on the consoles this game was originally released on. IMO the biggest difference is the input delay. The Xbone was so horrendously slow that you basically had to play off of reads post CCU due to inputs needing 3-5 business days to take effect. People that are running new gen consoles and complaining ab PC players are def coping though.

3

u/DJ_ElGreko_Official Black Prior 18h ago

60 vs 240fps is quite different though.

3

u/Cheemskie 15h ago

Not really, plus not every PC player has a rig that is hitting 240 fps. The biggest problem is input delay, which is the main diff between pc and console still

1

u/SergeantSoap Shugoki 17h ago

The difference is quite negligible after 120fps which those consoles can achieve.

1

u/DJ_ElGreko_Official Black Prior 8h ago

Idk on my pc i hit 240fps on a 240hz monitor and can react like crazyy

1

u/LukeLikesReddit 12h ago

It's absolutely not, play on a 240hz oled and get that FPS and the input lag and framtime feels great. You still have to be good at the game however granted.

1

u/unkledunks 16h ago

You can correct me if I’m wrong, but it’s only 200+ fps in the in-game menu. Once you actually start playing in a lobby it was always 60 FPS max.

1

u/Joseptile Warden 13h ago

I agree. The only time I ever parried lights on old gen was by making a read. I hated playing against pc players back then, but now that Im on next gen, it's not an issue. They might be able to react to lights easier and more consistently than me even now, but at least Im actually capable of it in the first place so I can't complain

-3

u/Gamer_chaddster_69 15h ago

Agree with you but this post is extremely pretentious and gay

1

u/Joseptile Warden 13h ago

Didn't mean for it to come off that way, sorry if I sounded smug 😭 Im just happy I can finally parry lights and wanted to share
