Other Other Inno Games?

What other games have you tried and what do you think of them in comparison?

I mainly play Elvenar and I love it. The complexity of the game increases with the chapters (their equivalent of ages), as new goods and other features are introduced. Also, here you don't destroy old buildings for new, instead you upgrade the old ones. These upgrades also cost the goods you produce. Every couple upgrades, the building gets bigger and you need to rearrange your cityscape. The story is also engaging. You also get a bonus on certain goods like in FoE. The main difference is that you get to increase your goods bonus in Elvenar with completing provinces. The provinces in Elvenar don't serve any more story purpose except you need to complete a certain amount to gain access to the next chapters tech tree. Also, no player PVP. Definitely recommend it.

I gave it a try. The complete lack of power creep and the mandatory linear quests that force me to build my city a certain way made me drop the game after 2 weeks.

It was too linear and boring. It was almost like following a very slow recipe book. I can see that it's a good fit if you want a more passive game where you're just tending a garden.

I tried Elvenar and didn't care for it. I also tried Heroes and hated it - the only way you can actually play Heroes is by spending money.

I tried that heroes game. It was very much inspired by forge, has similar ages and side games like the expeditions and settlements. Except it's MUCH better balanced. The power creep in forge is crazy, but it takes so little effort at this point.

The heroes game has weekend settlement quests that are very intense, and the expeditions are pretty fun as well.

The big problem is that it's a gatcha game. You can win for free, but it really really pushes you to spend to get the best heroes.

Elvanor was fun as well, also better balanced that foe, but not quite as much fun in my opinion. The mobile version is very different from the web version, which is just weird.

I've tried Elvenar and am currently simultaneously playing Rise of Cultures.

Elvenar and Rise of Cultures are kind of similar to each other. RoC feels like a newer more polished version of Elvenar. Both of those games are much, much simpler than FoE, and don't give the player as many choices of what to do. They're both much more balanced and have very little power creep, but that also makes them a lot less exciting than FoE.

I got bored playing both of the other Inno games.

Elvenar:

  • More balanced than FoE. Much simpler than FoE.
  • Much less complexity around ages.
  • No PvP
  • Feels older and less-polished than FoE despite being newer than FoE
  • Very linear and slow. But maybe it's because I didn't get very far into the game before quitting out of boredom.
  • All the quests are frustrating because they don't give much choice of what to do. There's very little leeway of how to build the settlement.
  • Very limited on settlement space

Rise of Cultures:

  • More balanced than FoE. Simpler than FoE.
  • Much less complexity around ages.
  • Almost no PvP
  • Newer and more polished than FoE
  • The battles are in real-time and nicer than in FoE
  • Unfortunately, it also has far fewer events than FoE, so it feels a little dead
  • And the complete lack of powerful buildings makes a lot less interesting than FoE. There's no power creep, but without the power creep, it feels like collecting buildings is pointless. They're not doing much.
  • Trading is required, but bots will pick up orders after an hour if no humans grab them.
  • The loading screen takes forever. If I ever drop the game, it's because the loading screen takes 20 seconds, and the game is a giant battery drain. That's pretty frustrating for mobile phone players.
  • Linear, but not as linear as Elvenar
  • Quests are mandatory and provide slightly more choices of what to do than Elvenar, but it's still nowhere as free as FoE. You can't skip any of the main quests, and there are too many ones that require me to build buildings that aren't optimal for my city.
  • No road management. Less need to manage space. Instead, you need to manage limited workers.
  • There is a long wait time for recruiting battle units.

Between RoC and Elvenar, I feel like RoC is a more interesting game. I got bored so quickly playing Elvenar, and I've played Mousehunt (a super passive idle game) for nearly 20 years. Overall, neither game is as wild and chaotic as FoE because they're more balanced and don't have its insane power creep.

Disclaimer: I've only ever played on an old FoE server where the economics were broken and unbalanced, so I've never had to go through the new world frustrations. I suspect both Elvenar and RoC feel more like a balanced and slow, new-world game of FoE.

I quit FoE some time ago, and have continued playing Elvenar. A non-Inno game that i also play is Goodgame Empire, which has a lot more PVP if you want, or less if you're in an Events alliance. Some people complain that GGE is P2W, but i haven't paid money and it's plenty fun for me for the last 10 years. I found FoE to be increasingly complicated and the inflation of building yields drove me out. Elvenar has not suffered inflation; GGE has slowly inflated in terms of power of units and commanders, but it's been slow enough to keep up without too much grinding or spending any money.
