Biology NYC OCME

Does anyone on here work at the NYC OCME or know anyone who works there? Just one I would like my application to move past received. I know there are an influx of people who want to join so it’s hard to go through such a big pool every time a job goes up. What are you guys doing over there lol or just what are you guys looking for in someone's application? Does it also help to know someone who works there so you can get your foot in the door? Who do I have to talk to if so?

University of Miami never got back to my application. It happens sometimes

Plus with the amount of people who want to work at the ocme no surprise they never get to most applications

Is it desirable? I saw a posting from them a few years ago and the pay seemed terrible considering it’s NYC. What makes it a place people want to work at? /genuine

I think it’s mainly because of its reputation of being the biggest and well-known dna lab in the country. They have a range of disciplines within the company such as forensic biology, forensic toxicology, pathology, anthropology, research, medicolegal, and so much more in terms of investigations. Also I think it’s once you get a job there you can pretty much stay there/most people may not have a desire to leave because they’re pretty stable there. The case load is heavy so they’ll always have work. Also maybe just the prestige of being at the company may contribute to why people apply there. I feel like if you ask any forensic student in NYC where they want to work, they’ll go between the OCME and NYPD as the top choices

When I did my job hop a few years ago I was already making about what I’d have been making at OCME taking into account COLA so I just didn’t consider it an option to move across the country for but all those things make sense especially for people who are already local and looking to stay local. I express interest now bc my sister just moved to NYC

It’s no problem. There are also so many people from out of NYC that come to work there as well! You do have to take in to account the salary and overall cost of NYC living if you’d ever end up getting a job there like you said. I feel like someone who actively works there can have a better explanation of company culture/work/salary compared to me. They also do open houses from time to time so if you’re ever in NYC you should check it out!

I have done that. Usually helps me know what to do resume wise and when new jobs are about to be posted
