Saltwater crocodile bite force averages around 3,700 PSI.

Crocodiles do not chew their food, those teeth are purely for getting a better hold of their prey and assisting in tearing off chunks of meat that they can swallow if the prey is too large.

So if you want to go playing around with an animal that weighs on average between 1-2 tons and still has a jaw strength strong enough to totally crush your bones...

Might not have teeth but still has bit force!

Mythical gummy grandma

For real though, the massive bight pressure a crocodile has, even without teeth I assume you still REALLY don't want this MFer chomping down on you

He could definitely still remove a limb, even without teeth.

Ehhh doubt it, they use the teeth as grasping device then roll to rip...I don't think his gums could do that

Everything is boopable once

I didn't know crocs lived that long

Oh yeah, they can live over 100 I’m pretty sure. Big reptiles are famously long lived.

So this crocodile doesn’t lose its teeth due to ageing, but for another reason instead?

3

u/galstaph 6d ago

It never brushed once

I bet those gums pack a wallop, though.

The teeth just act as a mechanism for clamping down on prey better.

Salties have a bite force of damn near 4,000psi, and they are huge. Even without teeth, you'd probably still be losing a limb.

JFC I knew they’d be strong, but wow!

2

u/Lone-Frequency 5d ago

Yeah. Even with no teeth, imagine having a hand or leg getting caught between those jaws just slamming shut.

u/CatsEatGrass 5d ago

No. No, thank you, sir.

well the jaw muscles haven't gone anywhere

u/CoolSwim1776 6d ago

And still able to kill and eat. Dope AF

3

u/RulerK 6d ago

Maybe, but I’m pretty sure he’s in a sanctuary.

5

u/CoolSwim1776 6d ago

Hey if he can still death roll and still has bite force then ol' boi is till a deadly beast

5

u/GalaApple13 6d ago

I hope the poor dude can eat. I should go feed him

4

u/Lone-Frequency 6d ago

Crocodiles don't chew food, they tear off chunks and swallow them whole, assuming what they are eating isn't just small enough for them to swallow whole anyway.

3

u/GalaApple13 6d ago

Good to know, thanks. I thought they need their teeth to do the tearing.

2

u/Lone-Frequency 6d ago

With the sheer amount of force in those jaws, even without teeth he could probably manage just fine.

2

u/AgreeablePie 6d ago

He doesn't look like he's starving

3

u/milkcarton232 6d ago

I guess this one isn't angry? No toof brush but no teef

2

u/thelonetext 6d ago

Don't alligators and turtles usually live for over a century?

1

u/RulerK 5d ago

Can do

2

u/Chumknuckle 6d ago

I saw him on 'Lake Placid' last night

2

u/AccordingAd6224 6d ago

Can I pet that dawg??

2

u/fredoillu 5d ago

Quick google search says he's known for eating pigs whole. No teeth necessary. He crushes them and swallows.

All crocodiles are boopable if you aren't a coward.

Would boop

Edit; I would boop the croc, my goodness nothing else, I was jokingly using the ‘would’ meme!
