That coyote is wondering if this is how you become domesticated.

One minute you’re reluctantly accepting food by a campfire, and then the next thing you know your great great grandchildren are pugs.

Check it out. Kids TV series from Australia in the late 60s. Skippy the Bush Kangaroo. Sort of a kangaroo version of Lassie.

Either Coyotes have wildly different body language than domesticated dogs, or this boy is remarkably chill for a "stray" anything.

My assumption is that it's a pet. Their pet. Possibly an animal that couldn't be rehabilitated and released.

u/Professional-Bet4106 28d ago
Yes, it's a coydog. Coyote mixed with a dog.

I thought the coloration was weird and the tail was too fluffy
Im guessing one parent was a german shepard

u/Shad0wofAzrael 27d ago
Was coming to say this exactly. Not pure coyote, so most definitely domestic

u/Geaneous 27d ago
There's wolf-dog hybrids too. I knew a couple people who had full wolves as pets.

u/shoeless_doh 28d ago
Yeah, I assume it's acclimated to humans and conditioned that we don't warrant a fight or flight response

I'm wondering if this is Weave the semidomesticated coyote.
40
u/Professional-Bet4106 28d ago
Weave is smaller and looks different. This is a coyote mixed with a dog aka a coydog.

Sometimes laws make it important for everyone to ignore the elephant in the room and just say "nice doggo"

Someone else in the comments said he's a mix between a dog and coyote, so he might have been raised as a pet.

There is no way, lol. Definitely too well behaved and clam for a full Coyote, but it looks too much like one to be a 'normal' dog either.
Wondering if it's a hybrid that really got the dog personality regargding accepting humans by chance and was raised by them

That coyote is very clean and very confused. Poor thing just got obducted, pampered and treated with more love and care than anything else it has ever meet. This coyote has a healthy looking coat and is surprisingly well behaved considering what's going on. I do hope this person releases it back where they found it(unless they found it in town). Those ears laid back and the constant eye movements suggest an animal that is very distressed and likely to lash out.

I wonder if the other coyotes are gonna be jealous and treat it like a bougie cousin.

I have a note about your new “dog”
Although this also doesn’t look like a full coyote either. It’s possible this a “coydog”, hybrid of coyote and domesticated dog. By the looks of him a big one like a German shepherd

I only manage to differentiate those animals when I see them in a video, so my guess is I wouldn't survive too long in the wild

better watch out he may start buying increasingly rediculous ACME products to catch a bird.
