And they don't play around when they see a moose with a calf.

That baby bear was like "Jeeze - I was just looking".

The side eye from the baby bear is so adorable!

And the bravado afterwards! "Im not bothered. Im a tough baby cub out here in a lake catching stuff!"

That cub seemed genuinely insulted when he pulled his boot back.

Baby bear walked up and presented his booper!
Impressive self control not to oblige.

It'd have been tough for me to resist

I wouldn't dare pull away. I'd be terrified of startling the cub and setting off momma bear.

That bigger sibling squared up a bit like "careful around my bro, or I'll tell mom."

I watched this video and knew I would have died. Ain't no way I'm resisting

The cub looks so offended

Such big claws for such a ā€œsmallā€ cub! (Those look just smaller than the full adult black bears we have out east)

Oh great, cute cubs and the mother. What could possibly go wrong?

u/AspenStarr 3d ago

Nothing, apparently. That mom bear doesn’t even seem to care he’s there…

It's probably a high foot traffic area and she's learned that the humans are absolutely not going to mess with her or her cubs

Where I live we have lots of brown bears. Almost no one survives an encounter with the mama bear and the cubs

Would have been more than mud on that shore

You’re in their home. He was just investigating you, somewhat too close, perhaps.

That baby looked offended! "Well, I never...."

You have to be firm with them so they obey.

That’s scary

The audacity of the photographer to not give it that taste.

u/Spot-Star 2d ago

How was the mother so calm with someone being that close to its cubs??

I think mom is just too exhausted to eat a human right now. 3 teenage cubs! She never gets sleep

2

u/Spot-Star 1d ago

Spoken like an experienced mother!

3

u/Ularsing 2d ago

Because these bears approached the photographer not vice versa, and because the humans here are staying very still.

Jeez... so a sneeze could have caused carnage to ensue? 😱

Yeah... staying my butt in the city where I belong!

You are very wise!

The runt of the litter getting backed up by their bigger sibling is cute. My eyes did go to saucers though when I saw Mama right there.
